I'm a violinist personally.

LTRAIN 08-31-2011 10:20 PM

Piano

I play piano, still developing in the art but it's like the best instrument ever. You can make such beautiful music and it sets the tone and atmosphere.

Guitar and keyboard... not very well though. I'd love to record an album and play every instrument on it. I'd love to learn sax.

izzystar 09-11-2011 04:48 AM

Guitar sometimes-- As a kid played keyboard but havent for ages

potatohayz 09-12-2011 08:09 PM

I would love to try learning to play guitar, but I dont any the money to get one, or anyone willing to teach me... :P hopefully someday (soon ) though :D
Ive also, tried teaching myself piano, which has been failing miserably..

potatohayz 09-12-2011 08:10 PM

I agree, piano can play some very beautiful music <3 I hope I can someday :O

roberttrailer 09-14-2011 01:08 AM

it's my frustration to play piano and harp but sadly seems i have no bit talent in music..:( i envy anyone who can play..

ThePhanastasio 09-17-2011 10:35 PM

I've begun using weird household mediums for percussion, as well as for melody.

Seriously - record yourself, a spoon, and a mirror, and you'll get some dank sounds.

Gangleri 09-20-2011 03:34 AM

I play guitar and a bit of Irish bouzouki when I'm performing but I can remember a little bit from my old trumpet days when I was 10.

Desperately wish that I could play the piano and violin though! That would be utter luxury...

irfansajjad 10-08-2011 01:13 AM

fantastic

Rice 10-08-2011 03:57 AM

I play guitar, fiddle and piano. I really want to play more - will start looking into it.

Oh and I have a didgeridoo at home, but suck at it!

that_dude 10-08-2011 09:01 PM

I play the clarinet and the piano. I want to get to know the guitar...lessons are tooo much for me.

Howard the Duck 10-09-2011 06:24 AM

tbug2007 10-26-2011 12:24 PM

Only when played properly.

I got out my clarinet for the first time in around 8 years and was pleased that I could still play every note within the clarinet's range. :) The only problem is I've lost the strength in my embrasure and so my lips get painfully tired after only around 5 minutes of playing. :( I'm going to have to try practicing around 10 minutes a day to work up the muscles again.

I play the violin! :) It's a great instrument. I encourage you to learn soon so you have longer to enjoy playing.

I wish I'd learned to sight-read piano music when I was a child. My household had a nice piano, but I was focusing on clarinet and violin. The piano didn't appeal to me as much, so I never did more than make up my own little piano songs. I never even thought of asking for piano lessons, whereas by the time I was 7 I *knew* I wanted violin lessons.

Now I wish I were able to read piano music rapidly. Luckily, I can read piano music well enough to play Bach's Prelude No. 1 in C major. Since I feel that's one of the most beautiful piano pieces, I don't fret too much about not being able to sight-read more than that! :p:

I can sight read simple pieces perfectly. Obviously complex ones take practice :P. Piano's problem is that it's not particularly a fun instrument to play until you get fairly good at it.

And is violin fun? I mean it sounds nice, but it sounds like it's a lot of fun too.

Hmm...I feel that playing the violin is pleasant and enjoyable, but I wouldn't call it "fun."

Maybe because I've played so long, when I play violin it feels just like an extention of my body, and so playing the violin is nice but I take it for granted. I like that you have to move your bow arm quite vigorously, sometimes with full-body motions. The sound you get matches the motion you make. There's a strong body-instrument connection.

Now electric guitar -- I'd say THAT instrument is truly fun, more of a euphoria fun. Being able to make a tiny motion and create a huge sound is kind of a rush! I'd vote for electric guitar as "most fun instrument."

I'd say second-most fun instrument is the cello.

Third most fun instrument to play: drums.

Fourth most fun: violin.

Kaimon 10-27-2011 10:50 PM

I want to learn, and currently trying, to get a grasp on the double bass. And jesus christ is this hard. Especially the bowing (I can do a decent pizzicato). I'm no stranger to a bow, but goddamn.

I think the E string is going to be the death of me.

ThePhanastasio 10-28-2011 01:18 AM

I've been teaching myself piano / keyboard so as to add some nice and different flavor to my music. I can play guitar, french horn, and percussion - but piano is so different. I tried once before, and couldn't do anything. Now, with guitar knowledge, chords aren't as foreign to me. I just need to get the hang of the movement of hands.

Howard the Duck 10-28-2011 01:40 AM

^^i can play some decent ragtime on the piano

Farfisa 10-28-2011 01:57 AM

The oud is something I would really like to be able to play. Being that I'm mainly a guitar player I'm pretty used to fretted instruments, so it will be a challenge. Also, the idea of using microtonal scales seems like it would be able to break up the monotony of playing a guitar that's only cable of using the chromatic scale.

The tanpura also seems like a great instrument to have and play. I don't plan on taking it to bonfires or anything, that's pretty lame and poseurish. The prospect of being able to gently tap three stings for hours while I zone out seems kind of relaxing.

The harmonium is probably the only keyboard instrument I'd ever learn and again, it seems like an interesting and unusual instrument to have and play. Being similar to accordion as it uses air to pass through the free-reeds resulting in sound.

dojo 10-28-2011 02:34 AM

I've played the guitar back in high-school. Really enjoyed it, but I had to go to college, so my music career ended pretty steeply :D

Have tried to play it this year again, I need to re-learn most of the stuff though.

Windy 10-28-2011 09:36 PM

I'd like play drum and piano~~They are different. It's cool to play drum.

NGPercussion 10-29-2011 02:08 PM

Would just like to update everybody that through music education, I am learning to play trumpet and clarinet. Also, I am in private lessons on cello, piano, and percussion. Percussion, however, I've been playing since 2003.

_Kat_ 10-29-2011 10:03 PM

I've played a trumpet in middle school.
But so far, I've stuck to piano but I only know a few songs.
I play for fun in a way, rather than serious with sheet music and stuff like that. :)

Secretchord 10-29-2011 10:39 PM

Vocalist and piano. I am learning guitar

bluesfool 11-16-2011 11:29 PM

I've played guitar off and on for about thity years. I've recently taken up the trumpet. I also have more interest in taken additional brass and wind instruments. I guess a composer playes multi instruments in his/her head to get inspiration for the complete composition score.

bluesfool 11-16-2011 11:33 PM

One more thought, you're never too old to learn another instrument.

Matbaj23 11-18-2011 03:53 PM

I play guitar. Can't really play much but im learning :)
I hope to save up some money to buy electric guitar soon. don't realy enjoy playing acoustic so it's mostly just sitting there...

sweetbutter87 11-18-2011 07:50 PM

I saw Aerosmith in concert and fell in love with Joe Perry.
On sweet emotion i love the guitar effect, I think its called a "Talk Box", its sooooo cool!

xxkittykatxx 11-19-2011 10:23 AM

well myself i do vocals and violin :) it gives me a nice feeling on the inside :D :band: <--------man i wish i had one of those :rotfl:

xxkittykatxx 11-19-2011 10:24 AM

I started on piano when I was about 9, but Little League interfered ultimately, though I had to also play piano as a Music Major in College, along with a string, a brass, and a woodwind.

So while my main instrument is guitar for the last 50 years, I have also played trapset drums, and saxophone, and dabbled with trumpet, trombone, and even cello when I had to play a string section instrument.

I have more facility on sax and drums than any of the others (except guitar), but for the last 20 years or so have pretty much just concentrated on guitar as my main instrument.

That takes enough work just to keep my chops up on guitar, at this age.

I sometimes wish I had kept at saxophone more, as I prefer it as a solo jazz voice over the sound of the guitar in jazz, however music is music and I just can't see all that work to get the kind of facility I'd want on sax. Besides, my teeth are a bit sketchy for maintaining solid chops for the future on a wind instrument.

Goofle 11-22-2011 12:17 PM

I play acoustic and electric guitar. Not excellent on either, but can basically play the chords of any tune.

Getting into theory.

neverasitseems 11-23-2011 05:15 PM

Time to be my classical band self: I play clairnet, flute, most mallet instruments, a little bit of alto sax., piano, guitar, and harp (a bit).

Manuel 12-02-2011 07:39 AM
