Musician Behind one of the Most Sampled Songs in History Finally Got Paid

Don't know if this is the right place to post but it works. I find it strange and hard to believe that an artist that is as heavily sampled as this article claims has never been paid for they're song. I don't know...

He was paid for the song, just not for all the gazillion times his beat was sampled.

My point was that I find it hard to believe that he's never been compensated by the musicians that sampled his song.

Well, he hasn't. The amen break launched at least one entire electronic music genre (jungle) and he didn't make any money from it.

OccultHawk 08-31-2016 06:23 PM

Nor should he be. You shouldn't be able to copyright a beat. This story is old, btw.

I guarantee they're all back on the streets. Why can't officers use a taser in those cases or aim for the legs?

Most of the time, it's due to the victim being a bigger threat hence shooting them down. I don't even have to read the article and that's obvious.

I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, legally, I think people should be free to sample as long as they're using the sample in a way that's markedly different from the source—like chopping up a break and turning it into beat, as in this case. On the other hand, considering how far reaching the sampling of the Amen Break is, you'd think some people would throw the guy a fucking bone. So it's nice to read about the kickstarter thing.

Don't even have to read the article and yet it's obvious to you? :banghead:

Dude, the cop shot the guy, who was about 10 feet away from him, 16 times in about 14 seconds. The first shot dropped him so the next 15 were while the guy was on the ground. 9 of those hit him in the back!!!!

And his only "weapon" was a knife with a 3" blade. He was not threatening or approaching the cops with it when he was shot. The dash-cam video is out there but it's ridiculously disturbing to watch.

See, the thing is, he performed the beat. They all sample the beat he performed. So if these people were using a beat they performed, but sounds like his, that's one thing. But if they use a beat that is sampled and performed by someone else, then they should pay the person something. Just my personal take.

OccultHawk 09-01-2016 01:56 AM

Just because you create a sound doesn't mean you should own it. All sounds, beats, melodies, and songs belong in the public domain. Copyright laws impede creativity and have stunted the evolution of music, especially hip hop.

It's a break they're sampling, not the entire beat.

I agree with tasers but no to shooting in the leg.

Why does the general public think cops are expert marksmen than can easily pull off leg shots?

Those lazy motherfuckers can't and even if they could they are trained to shoot on sight and just kill if there is a potential threat.

Yeah man, how dare they keep our streets safer by getting rid of crime. How dare they! Such an awful thing to do!

It really is, because most of the crimes they enforce are harmless and don't really affect the community (see drugs and traffic laws).

getting rid of what crime? They are the primary gang committing the most crime and getting away(paid vacations and time off) with it.

I semi-agree with this. But I've only ever had pretty solid encounters with cops where I literally should've been arrested but was cut loose because I acted appropriately and didn't give them any grief.

this reminds of the time israeli soldiers shot a palestinian teen dead and then planted a knife on him and it was all caught on camera yet people still sided with the soldiers lmfao. why do people worship people in power like they can do no wrong???

yeah, I have no real beef with cops that I have encountered. I have great interactions with them. I let them know I am a Navy Vet and I get thanks for your service and the tone of the conversation changes. I just do whatever they say, we have a good laugh, chit chat and I move on my way. I wasn't in any positions to be arrested though. I wonder how that would go down. They might be easy on me for being a vet.

That being said, I'm not going to excuse the cops that are either poorly trained or just trigger happy. **** those bad cops that get protected by the so called good cops because they stay silent.

Very few get punished and fired. I know not always but a majority of the time the code of blue and keeping silent pays off for them.

There's somehow still something vaguely baby-faced about him.

In Oklahoma, incest is a felony, and if convicted, is punishable up to 10 years in prison.
Gross or not, why is it a felony? So long as everyone is of legal age then what's the point of society poking their nose where it doesn't belong?

kibbeh 09-08-2016 03:08 PM

omg you are NOT being serious right now.............. the mom is obviously a sicko who is taking advantage of her kids. she married her son first and now her daughter. that is so creepy. i wonder how she convinced them that it was okay. or if she even had to.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 09-08-2016 03:12 PM

It's kind of sad that it has to be a law tho, isn't it? I like to assume people just no better than to marry their son/daughter.

 not at the typo, either. People are idiots, they don't know anything.

Personally I think that insects serve a useful role in the ecosystem and banning them is outright foolish.

I'm blaming the typo on the ridiculous amount of religious literature I've consumed over the past week for school. And as far as stupidity, yeah, that's just how it be.

Yeah it's creepy and I doubt the relationship is healthy, but how many relationships that are perfectly legal are also totally ****ed up? Should we start passing laws about every aspect of human romantic relations we don't like? If two ****ed up people want to do something that makes us gag then why is that our business? The only people they're potentially hurting are themselves and family... and employment prospects.

It's basically long form grooming.

i think 10 years in jail is uncalled for. they should instead be sent to a mental hospital or something.

Almost certainly. But that **** happens with non-related legal adults. Should we ban 40-year-olds from marrying 20-year-olds too?
