You keep saying Michael Brown is innocent. How do you know? There's video of him stealing from a convenience store and bullying the owner shortly before the incident with the police. That kid was huge. Who's to say he didn't try bullying the cop too. We simply don't know because there's no video of the actual shooting.

Both of these situations are terrible but they are not nearly as black and white as you are trying to make them out to be.

Frownland 11-24-2014 04:31 PM

Unarmed is a synonym for innocent, didn't you know?

actually it wasn't ultimately the stand your grown law that won the case for zimmerman. it was just basic self-defense which as far as i know would have been just as valid in any state, though i admittedly don't know the law well enough to state that as a fact.

Yes, but epidemic implies that it's happening to millions.

It is on the government's part.

Obama has the national guard out today, the same national guard that was throwing tear gases at innocent children over the summer WTF?

Did you see that crap over the summer?

The police were violating those protesters civil rights.

And you are outrageously misinformed.

Do you know how many black males have died by police?

Millions of black males HAVE died, it is a epidemic.

Frownland 11-24-2014 06:00 PM

I was saying that while the government hasn't improved on the situation there still is some improvement, not that the government shouldn't consider it an issue.

And stats on your millions have died statistic? Were they all unjustified? I think a lot of people forget that police are dealing with criminals.

You still believe the media propaganda :(

Sad.

You know why the white racist media leaked that tape? They leaked it to paint a picture of Michael Brown that you seem to have already fallen for.

That camera video was proven to be a fluke and had no connection with the police officer. The police did not know he stole two cigars. Those were two SEPERATE incidents. The cop did not know Michael was connected to that.

Even if he did, does that mean the kid deserved to die?

Its sad that you do not see how the white media used that to deflect the real issue. To paint him as a thug that deserved to die like you are implying now. They tried to do the same thing to Trayvon Martin in order to justify his murder.

It doesnt matter how big the boy was, he did not deserve to get shot 6 times and left dead for 4 1/2 hours in the middle of the street.

MULTIPLE witnesses said that Michael surrendered, had his hands up, and was falling down to the ground when the cop shot him in the head (according to the autopsy report)

Why would the cop continue to shoot him when his hands are up?

Why would the cop continue to shoot him when his falling down?

I hope they arrest his racist ass and if they don't, I hope they riot and protest.

You need to do your homework and stop believing the media (its designed to paint a picture) but that picture is not always an accurate picture which is why you should research.

Do you know how racist and insensitive you sound with this?

So ALL black males are criminals?

Soulflower 11-24-2014 06:13 PM

George Zimmerman got out the car VIOLATING what the police told him NOT to do. The police told him to wait for them and stay in the car. He got out the car and followed Trayvon and instigated an altercation with him.

That is NOT self defense.

Self defense would have been him just staying in the car like the police told him to do.

Nonsense! You won't be able to post a single reliable statistic to back that absurd statement up.

The fact of the matter is that the overwhelming majority of black males murdered in the USA each year are murdered by other black males. And there are reliable statistics to prove it.

i actually agree with you here. i remember hearing the kid robbed some store thinking he went in with a gun or something an held it up. when i heard it was that he actually stole some cigars i was like wtf does that have to do with anything. really misleading to even bring it up and especially to call it a robbery.

but i do think in general you seem to see everything through a racial lens so you kind of blow these things out of proportion. i'm not saying racism isn't an issue with the police and i know for a fact i've had police say racist things to me feeling safe to do so cause i was white so they figured i'd agree with them. so i'm usually thankful i'm white whenever i get pulled over or stopped. but i think what makes so many people here irritated with you is that you sensationalize it so much and they probably mostly come from suburban areas and haven't seen much of what you're talking about anyway. and also you jump to some outlandish conclusions like the criminal remark frownland is face-palming at above.

I think you need to clarify your point if you don't want to be labeled insensitive which this post is.

What exactly is the point of this post since you think you are above clarifying your point?

I appreciate your passion but you need to read up on the facts of the case. The 911 dispatcher told Zimmerman he didn't need to get out of the car. He was not obligated to stay in his car based on that. That was clearly pointed out at the trial.

At some point Martin struck Zim in the face and then bashed his head on the ground. That was clearly pointed out at the trial based on the police photos of Zim.

Do I wish that Zim was in jail right now? Yup. I hate the fact he walked.

i think both trayvon and zimmerman did exactly what they weren't supposed to do and it ****ed them both but trayvon got the worst of it. zimmerman should have minded his business. i hate people who get guns and then think they are the new sheriff in town. you don't stalk someone you think is a threat. call the police if you're going to do anything. as for trayvon, you don't turn around and attack your stalker. try your best to avoid a confrontation and **** like that is less likely to happen.

I disagree. Martin's killer was not arrested because it occurred in redneck s-hithole of a state. We have the exact same SYG law in Michigan and if you shoot an unarmed person and can't prove it was self-defense, you are going to be arrested and probably convicted. Just ask that Wafer fella how that SYG law is working out for him.

Martin wasn't given a choice. His gf testified that Martin said, "Why are following me?" then the phone cut off. I think Zimmerman slapped the phone out of Martin's hand to provoke a fight he knew he was going to win. He and Martin scuffled and then Zimmerman pulled a gun. Martin screamed for help but it was too late for him. His fate was sealed the instant Zimmerman laid eyes on him. It wasn't just a homicide, it was first degree murder.

Praise God thank you..... I am tired of this forum making it seem like its just me.

BLACK PEOPLE ARE IN TROUBLE especially black males.

Soulflower 11-24-2014 07:38 PM

America is called home of the free aka "The Freeland"

but in America a white man can get away with killing a black teenager.

In American a police or law enforcement figure can get away with murdering a young black teen

This is the home of the free?

This is the home of EQUALITY for all?

BULL****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

from what i remember trayvon was beating the **** out of zimmerman when he shot him. so basically yea even turning around and confronting your stalker verbally is really the wrong way to go about it. keep going and see if they do anything. if they do then you have the right to defend yourself. you don't have to seek out that confrontation. but even if you do seek it out and then you get in a fight, you don't need to sit there beating his ass. that's not self defense that's just fighting. usually it'll get you assault charges. in this case it got him shot which is self defense since really you can get beat to death pretty easily. again, i acknowledge zimmerman brought the ass beating on himself but the way the law works what he did was still technically legal regardless of race or anything else.

Zimmerman should have went to jail and This cop should have been indicted...period.

John Wilkes Booth 11-24-2014 07:44 PM

i don't think he should have went to jail for murder to be honest cause his defense never cited stand your ground it was just basic self defense. being an *******/stalker doesn't negate your right to self defense. i do think though if i was in charge i would take away his 2nd amendment rights cause he seems like the wrong type to have a gun to me.

But how is getting out the car instigating an altercation self defense?

He instigated that altercation with Trayvon Martin.

He obviously wanted to fight him, so how was that self defense?

he instigated an altercation but there is a difference between instigating and getting physical. it is legal to be a stalkerish *******. not recommended and not good manners, but legal.

But my point is that does not fit the description of "self defense" so why are you calling it that?

John Wilkes Booth 11-24-2014 07:59 PM

it does fit the description. the court already ruled on that and most honest lawyers will tell you they got it right. he brought it on himself but once trayvon started physically attacking him he still had the right to defend himself.

Soulflower 11-24-2014 08:00 PM

In the past, our American leaders have always argued morality, equality over "legality," yet when it comes to African Americans this principle suddenly does not exist.

This is what this verdict highlights.

John Wilkes Booth 11-24-2014 08:04 PM

i'm not sure about that, but at the end of the day legality is the only thing that matters in court.

and the media will pick up on stories like this specifically because of the racial element and turn it into a huge us vs them issue where everyone gets all riled up. there was a very similar incident in florida when i was a kid where a white kid got shot on halloween for knocking on someone's door and running away. castle law says you have the right to defend your property and the homeowner mistook the kid as a robber/threat. it made a little buzz locally but never went national cause there was no racial aspect of it for the media to exploit.

But they didn't have guns. That's the point. And there are three hundred million people in this country. There are going to be bad things that happen in a country with this many people, and with a media that likes to take single incidents that have some kind of hook that they can sensationalize, it's easy to make America look like a shooting gallery.

Honestly, whatever the statistics for gun violence, I'd rather live in a permissive society that didn't decide my ability to defend myself based on graphs and pie charts. Just because I'm more likely to shoot someone who actually lives in my house doesn't mean I like the idea of not even having the option if my home is invaded.
