You can gloss and sugar coat it, I am not going too.

It IS an issue!

Do you think that there might be a confounding factor of de facto segregation with ghettos being so heavily populated with minorities?

OccultHawk 11-24-2014 08:22 PM

Black on black crime is the epidemic.

so basically yea even turning around and confronting your stalker verbally is really the wrong way to go about it. keep going and see if they do anything.
That's exactly what Martin did but Zimmerman followed him and since Martin had only just arrived there a day or so before and Zimmerman lived there for who knows how long, Martin really had no chance to get away from the guy and so he confronted him. It's what you would have done and it's what I would have done. It's what anyone in Martin's predicament would have done.

but even if you do seek it out and then you get in a fight, you don't need to sit there beating his ass.
Once again, where's you proof? Show me these life-threatening injuries to Zimmerman. I've been beat up worse than that in the service play fighting with my own ship mates.

that's not self defense that's just fighting.
Spare me. Martin had no idea who this as-shole was or what he wanted. I'm 190 lbs and I'll bet if I did to you what Zimmerman pulled on Martin, you'd be scared s-hitless. You'd fight for everything you were worth scared out of your wits that you were about to get the s-hit stomped out of you for no reason at all. So, really, since when do you get to decide how much of Martin's fighting back against this man stalking him was too much???

Quote:

usually it'll get you assault charges.
Since when?

in this case it got him shot which is self defense since really you can get beat to death pretty easily.
One last time, show me Zimmerman's oh-so-serious injuries. He wanted those injuries so he could claim self-defense. He provoked a fight because he knew he'd win. He was armed and significantly bigger than Trayvon Martin. The injuries were superficial to say the least and everything he told about how he killed Martin is a pretty obvious lie. Would you like me to explain it to you?

Quote:

again, i acknowledge zimmerman brought the ass beating on himself but the way the law works what he did was still technically legal regardless of race or anything else.
It's legal if a cop or a jury decides it's legal. If he had been convicted as he should have, you'd be saying the opposite of what you're saying now. But just keep drinking that kool-aid.

I think the Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown deaths have brought have highlighted an issue that needs to be addressed which I think is LONG overdue.

Love all of these matter of fact statements about what went down between Martin and Zimmerman once they finally stood face to face. Funny, I followed the trial and don't remember any of you being called to the witness stand.

The only injury that Martin had was the gunshot would. These are the injuries that Zimmerman sustained. We don't know what immediately led up to this but it's pretty obvious from the evidence (including the forensic evidence that Martin was on top when he was shot) that Zimmerman was getting his ass handed to him at one point. Was it his own fault - sure. Doesn't erase the fact though.

i saw a picture of his face after the altercation. dude obviously got his ass beat. i didn't say i have proof but that this absolutely is what happen but since there are no witnesses and his face is consistent with his story, you can fall back on innocent till proven guilty.

Love how has this issue been addressed when we have police officer's still murdering black teenagers and getting away with it?

Lord Larehip 11-24-2014 08:43 PM

The majority of black males that are murdered were murdered by other black males. there is no stat that contradicts that. i find it sad that blacks can become so angry about a white cop shooting a black kid who may or may not have deserved it but when a black kid kills another black kid over something completely stupid, those same blacks rioting in the streets have NOTHING to say about that. If they showed the same outrage for black-on-black crime that they do towards the far less frequent white-on-black crime, we wouldn't have so much black-on-black crime.

That said, I live in Detroit in a PREDOMINANTLY black neighborhood and have lived here for going on 17 years now. I have never been robbed, never been invaded, never been threatened or cat-called in my neighborhood. I get along with my neighbors. I frequently forget to lock my doors when I leave and once even forgot to close the door and was gone all day and still nothing happened. There are no gangs here, no shootings. There's some crime--there's crime everywhere--but nothing serious. I do not own a gun, never have, and do not plan on owning one. Yes, there are parts of Detroit to stay out of--at least after dark--but go to Vermont and you'll find the same types of areas all populated by whites. So let's not blow this black crime thing out of proportion.

Soulflower 11-24-2014 08:47 PM

What makes ya'll think that black people don't think black on black crime is an issue? This has ALWAYS been an issue that has been brought up. Whether it is influenced by rap music, classicism, etc

However,

Some of yall seem to think that excuses a bull**** verdict such as the one we heard tonight. It still does not change that black males are unfairly targeted by the police.

Zimmerman claimed he was getting his head bashed against the cement repeatedly when he shot Martin. His injury is completely inconsistent with that and is entirely superficial. As I said, he NEVER went to the hospital. So much for getting his ass handed to him.

When he shot Martin, Martin would have had to be standing over him pounding his head on the pavement. Martin then would have collapsed on top of Zimmerman and bled all over him. Where is Martin's blood on Zimmerman? In fact, an eyewitness claimed to see Zimmerman getting off Martin rather than getting out from under him. Zimmerman claimed he was the one screaming for help. Aside from the fact, it is clearly not Zimmerman's voice, it is physically impossible to scream when your head is being pounded on the pavement again and again.

He lied. Martin died. That adds up to murder.

Did you hear the part tonight from the grand jury testimony that two different black witnesses stated that Brown rushed the officer before the first shots rang out, then stopped, and then rushed again before finally being brought down by more shots?

And at least ten other witnesses have backed up the officers version of events?

Just gonna butt in here- have you ever been stalked by someone? Had a weapon pointed at you? Not saying Martin was aware of Zimmerman's being armed but he could have been, or would've been right/streetwise to assume he was. Either way- being stalked like that is a terrifying feeling. Once you call them there's not a whole lot the cops are gonna be able to do if the person/people after you actually do have violent intentions. Think about it. Who's gonna get to you first (if the cops even show up)?

Funny.... there were other witnesses that said otherwise.

I wonder why the grand jury didn't use them.

I assume that the verdict was reached on forensic evidence which, unlike eyewitness testimony, is reliable.

i didn't say we've fixed it yet but turning random examples into a media campaign does nothing but make a few people rich really, as well as deepen the divide between the different races cause everybody goes into tribal mode.

I thought this was an excellent thing his parents said:

Quote:

"We are profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequence of his actions.

While we understand that many others share our pain, we ask that you channel your frustration in ways that will make a positive change. We need to work together to fix the system that allowed this to happen.

Join with us in our campaign to ensure that every police officer working the streets in this country wears a body camera.

We respectfully ask that you please keep your protests peaceful. Answering violence with violence is not the appropriate reaction.

Let's not just make noise, let's make a difference."

to answer your question, yes. i am white and lived in ****ty neighborhoods almost my entire life. and you can say it's racist or whatever but i have black friends who admit to my face that if they didn't know me and they saw me walking down the street they might jump me just on the assumption that cause i'm white i might have money or an iphone or something like that. and where i grew up was mostly in south florida so really i know exactly how these kinds of situations unfold. the best thing to do usually is to mind your own until someone makes it impossible for you do to so, at which point you probably want to call the police if you can but either way at that point you have a right to defend yourself. but someone stalking you just isn't enough to give you that right legally. they have to basically start a physical altercation with you or at the very least verbally communicate a threat of violence to you.

GuD 11-24-2014 09:03 PM

The circumstances are wildly different. Black on black crime isn't the same as white figures of authority getting away with killing young black males.

Ferguson has had a racial division for YEARS.

It is one of the most racist locations in America.

I personally don't think these two situations have been exploited.

I think the media attention has brought attention to a problem.

Racism very much still exists and the law enforcement in this country is still not fair for certain populations/cultures.

fair point, i was referring more to the zimmerman case tbh.

to expand on this, if trayvon had a legal gun on him and a carry permit he still couldn't just turn around and shoot zimmerman for stalking him. but if zimmerman came up and attacked him then he could.

How do you know they are not outrage?

I am a African American and black on black crime is an issue that is very much talked about in my community.

It is also an issue that should be addressed.

I have never denied that.

However, I think that issue is rooted in a lot of classicism and the socioeconomic unprivileged that plagues certain communities due to poverty.

Zhanteimi 11-24-2014 09:17 PM

Being poor doesn't equate to being bad. There's no correlation there. Some of the best people who have ever lived on this earth were poor. Being bad has to do with choosing to be bad. Poverty is just an excuse. (And, yes, I grew up very poor white trash but chose not to go down the road of juvenile delinquency that many of my black and white friends chose.)

John Wilkes Booth 11-24-2014 09:18 PM

being poor gives people a pretty good incentive to be bad though.

Zhanteimi 11-24-2014 09:19 PM

Fine. But in the end, it comes down to personal choice.

John Wilkes Booth 11-24-2014 09:21 PM

obviously. but the crime problem is pretty much systematic. i mean yea everything comes down to personal choice but you can create environments where really you should expect to see negative results. you know the thing einstein said about insanity being doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. pretty much sums a lot of our crime problems up.

Soulflower 11-24-2014 09:23 PM

Actually there is.

There are higher crime rates in low income neighborhoods and communities stricken by poverty compared to richer communities. That is FACT.

That is largely due to the classicism and racism in this country.

Zhanteimi 11-24-2014 09:24 PM

There is a statistical correlation, but there is no moral correlation. An individual doesn't get a free pass to commit crime simply because he is poor.

Not really.

If you grow up poor, surrounded by poverty, never or rarely seeing people you relate to achieve a sense of worth in society, seeing people you relate to targeted for violence, participating in crime, being portrayed as criminals, etc. it's pretty unlikely that you'll think you have alternatives. And that's a pretty understandable, though not excusing, conclusion to make. Choice isn't the issue, it's culture. And your statement is a perfect example of that culture's damaging attitude.

Really, actually.

I was surrounded by and grew up knowing only one thing -- my life as an adult now in no way resembles the rest of my extended family or the community I once lived in. I broke away and made my own decisions. If I can do it, anyone can. If I can create a positive life which is the exact opposite of the childhood environment I grew up in, anyone can.

Sequoioideae 11-24-2014 09:28 PM

All they had to do was charge the officer, he was responsible for the death of a young man which caused riots, and violence. Just think about that, think about it real hard, he's walking around right now without consequence even after all the pain and suffering he's caused. I guarantee you that more people will die because they refused to even charge this man, and he will be responsible for even more bloodshed.
