Not really, Doctors take a thing called the Hippocratic Oath

It's really disgusting to me, especially being that addiction is a disease (not saying he's an addict obviously) but still.

When I was treated for the drug-induced parkinsons I developed in 2007, it was originally thought to be because of my opiate dependence but I was never treated that way by any of the doctors I dealt with and they were all very caring and compassionate towards me, the only thing even negative that was said to me was when I complained about how much this sucks one of the doctors told me "yeah well that happens when you mess with drugs :/" Turned out to be that it wasn't my opiate dependence but the medication I was put on for my bipolar disorder, LOL

YES. This has happened to me a couple of times, but not for about two years (thankfully). The last time, it was so bad that I even called 911 and they took me away to the ER. It was just a panic attack so it turned out that I only needed some lorazepam to bring everything back to normal. I'm glad they didn't keep pumping me full of benzodiazepines, though.

Long story short, I took the piss last week w/ beer. Friday & Saturday I felt bad, noticed a slight bit of chest discomfort trying to sleep (this would have been Sunday morning, early hours) and it got worse until about 10am when I decided to phone the NHS 24/7 thingy, answered a load of questions & they said I needed to come to hospital as they can't ignore chest pain, it wasn't an emergency i.e. send an ambulance out but they'd put me down as urgent and to come in before 10pm Sunday night.

It was at this point I started to feel/imagine pressure in my left arm and I ****ing **** myself.

Had an ECG and some other tests and everything was good, staff trying to calm me down etc, so I know it was the anxiety.

I knew you could get chest pains from anxiety, but didn't know they'd feel like this. Terrifying.

Did the same and that was what sent me overboard . Trying to relax now, looking at breathing techniques.

I've never had medication but think I will have to have some now. Been offered by my GP but declined at the time.

Same here, I have had a couple of panic attacks, one of which I was struggling to breathe.

What do benzodiapines do exactly? I know they are hard to get off.

Does anyone live in a country where euthanasia is legal? Here in Australia it's being debated now. I wonder if there is a distinction between euthanasia and suicide rates in countries where it is legal and whether suicide rates are lower.

Sounds like quite an ordeal. Still, good to know it was only anxiety, and nothing physical. Maybe take it easy on the booze for a few weeks, see if that helps.

According to Wikipedia: euthanasia is only legal in the three Benelux countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Assisted suicide is legal in Switzerland and in the US states of Washington, Oregon, Vermont and Montana.

You pose an interesting question. You think maybe just having euthanasia as an option somehow keeps fewer people from suicide?

This might be asking to much, but what exactly were you feeling anxiety about, anything in particular or just life?

I had the same thing happen to me in high school. Chest pains, arm pain, and afterward I felt dead tired, which I hear is also a symptom of a heart attack. I still kind of wonder if I actually had a small heart attack. Probably not, but I don't remember feeling particularly stressed out. I'm pretty sure I was even at lunch sitting down with my friends and talking calmly about how I thought I might be having a heart attack right there and then. But it got better and never happened again, so I guess it's all good.

It's cool. I have anxiety in general. But that was just anxiety from drinking too much. You ever got drunk then the next day or two felt depressed/anxious?

That's exactly why I hardly ever drink, it makes me feel sad the next day.
