It would be a great honor for me to bestow upon you such a manifest:

1. mclusky
2. Future of the Left

The preceding bands are both British, henceforth I listed them. They share lead vocalists, henceforth the association. Carry on with further discourse...
I got what you meant, so no worries.

I'm sure it wouldn't, my point was most folks aren't going to be as outwardly douchy as I was there, and they won't go googling most times. It was more of a clarification request.

Reading through this thread, I can see the Brits are extremely defensive about their music scene so I'll try to avoid offending!

I do have to say I prefer American music slightly, especially current music and musice of the last two decades or so. With alternative rock and the emergence of rap then some top quality indie artists, I just think the American music has been a lot more interesting then IMO stale bands like The Libertines which the British seem to focus on a lot. Not to mention I think America is notable for inventing many of the different genres of music (rock, jazz, r&b, rap, country, blues, electronic, etc.) and while genres like rock, r&b, and electronica could be a toss up as to which country does them better, other genres like jazz, rap, country, and blues America seems to have a strong advantage on.

I won't argue that the American music charts has, for the most part, uninspired and unexperimental music. I'm not familiar with British charts but if magazines like the NME are any indication, I would say their popular music is just as unexperimental. My two cents. It is, after all, my opinion.

I haven't read this thread much yet, well not at all yet because I just joined this site, but I'll throw in some opinions...

I'm American but I personally think British music kicks the dog **** out of American music for the most - especially in the realm of rock and roll.

Any country that produces the likes of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Oasis, Cream, and even "discovered" Jimi Hendrix should hold the all-time crown for best rock music, even if they didn't invent it.

To be frank The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Oasis as a 3-group unit, I believe is better than any 3-band unit of American bands in any configuration.

Now with that being said, I agree with the above poster who mentions that America has invented most of the best styles of popular and/or well known globally successful artforms.

To be even more specific, African-Americans (I am one as well) are really responsible for the vast majority of influential/successful styles (rock, blues, jazz, r&b, etc. etc.) so if we want to have a fair discussion - shouldn't this be African-Americans vs. Brits? That's a music better fight since for every Lennon there is a Michael Jackson and for every Bowie there is a Stevie Wonder For every Morissey there is a Prince, and for every Elvis there is a Chuck Berry...

The list could go on, hehehe, but you get my point!

The Brits win for rock history, Northern Soul, and most of the modern good ****,

But it all start in America, specifically Black America, so hehehe who knows? Good debate though

Liver Forever, you can spot Oasis fans a mile off. My mate has Definitely Maybe tattooed on his right arm.

What's defensive about thinking something is better?

Muse is terrible? Are you kidding me?

Libertines are overrated as all hell.

Much prefer an Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, or someone like Plan B (up and coming rapper/singer very successful in the U.S.) than that Lindsey Lohan-of-a-Brit Doherty and that average garage rock known as the Libertines.
