Urban Hat€monger ? 05-31-2008 05:09 PM

Never said you said it , I was just explaining why they don't sound anything alike. No need to get defensive.

And yes there is a difference. Britpop was a collection of bands from the same area who were all being signed and putting stuff out after a time where there wasn't much in the way of British music. It had nothing to do with how they sounded.

The first group of bands to be labelled Britpop wern't Blur or Oasis but Denim (A 70s glam rock parody) PJ Harvey & The Auteurs. all very very different artists with just the country they were from being the connection.

sweet_nothing 05-31-2008 05:11 PM

I guess....but a movement can define a genre such as punk in the 70's

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-31-2008 05:12 PM

There are always exceptions. You were talking about Britpop and in that case there was a difference.
Or at least there was until later when every band started sounding the same.

sweet_nothing 05-31-2008 05:15 PM

Yeh well I think it's like that in most cases like grunge, new wave.....ect. But what are some other good 'Britpop' bands?

Piss Me Off 06-01-2008 05:11 AM

I'm sure Urban will back me up, a good band at that time were Super Furry Animals.

Starless is mine - it's also my favourite song ever. But yeah, Fallen Angel would be my next favourite. I think all the songs all stellar though - they managed to get the improvisational thing right with Providence as well, which is much better than Moonchild from ITCOTCK.

A good album featuring early live shows when the band sounded more like a punk band, and Ian sung in a more of a high pitched voice. Also features alot of interviews with the band and producer Martin Hannet, but some interviews are hard to make out what they're saying with all the noise in the back ground.

Is that an actual album or a bootleg? Sounds intriguing...

sweet_nothing 06-03-2008 12:37 PM

It's a live album, I think it's a real album.

Besides the Yeni Raki EP i d/l off of their myspacez, the last one would be morrissey's Viva Hate.

I just bought 3 albums - I'm so excited! I can buy an album every now and again because for the first time in a few years, I have a bit of money left over at the end of each week.

King Crimson - Red (30th Anniversary Remaster)
Wishbone Ash - Argus (Expanded Edition)
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs

djkikis 06-07-2008 11:36 AM

Fork Songs- Tall Dwarf
I'm really digging Tall Dwarf at the moment, they are lo-fi New Zealand gods. Anyways, Fork Songs is really low-tech and has that DIY/aesthetic charm that comes with most of their music.

The last one I bought was Sam's Town by The Killers. And the last I downloaded were Flux remixes by Bloc Party.

They do 4am and Everyday combat am i correct?

If so i remember it being REALLY generic but not bad sounding.

Kobrakai 06-08-2008 10:42 PM

yeah those are both songs from the album, and yeah after listening to it I found it is pretty generic. They kind of went backwards.. I really like their old stuff a lot more

Seltzer 06-09-2008 03:41 AM

I just won an auction for 12 albums - final bid was $2! Ignoring the fact that a Def Leppard album is the last thing I want, it's a pretty good haul really. I discovered the auction on Trademe when I was looking for a Windir album.

Danzig - Danzig
Danzig - Danzig II Lucifuge
Danzig - Danzig III How the Gods Kill
Windir - 1184
Janes Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual
Janes Addiction - Idiots rule vol.2 (Bootleg)
Def Leppard - Hysteria
The Doors - Strange days
Cream - Strange Brew, The Very Best of
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues
The Kinks - Hit Singles
