Cactus - Tightrope (2021)

Quote:

70's classic rock legends return with a smashing new album that balances powerful, driving rockers with more complex and heady album tracks.

The band is still led by iconic drummer Carmine Appice alongside founding vocalist Jimmy Kunes with special guest appearances from original guitarist Jim McCarty and bassist Pete Bremy.

Los Destellos - Sicodélicos (2016)

A compilation of psychedelic tunes from 'Los Destellos' out of Peru. Hadn't heard it in a while and thought I'd give it a spin.

Debut project from the collaboration between Gilles Peterson and Jean-Paul Maunick

Mythic Sunship - Upheaval (2018)

I haven't listened to this album for around a year and decided to give it a spin this morning. Top-notch instrumental psychedelic space-rock from Denmark. It still sounds every bit as good to me as it did the last time I heard it.

10/10

Doris Wishman - The Best of Doris Wishman (2021)

Quote:

Doris Wishman was one of the most prolific female filmmakers that most people have never heard of. The pint-size sleaze queen helmed a variety of oddball exploitation classics that featured unique gimmicks and unusual, sometimes shocking subject matter. The Best Of Doris Wishman features audio from theatrical trailers, original theme songs, as well as some jazzy incidental library music from legendary exploiteers in the Something Weird world that are cherished and adored for the body of work they created!

About two or three weeks ago I found this forgotten gem by Don Cherry, and I just can’t get enough of it!

Incredibly, some bands are still releasing albums on 8-track tapes.

Reggae meets Ramones...

Bobby Ramone - Rocket to Kingston (2020)

An amusing combination of Bob Marley and the Ramones. Not an album I'd bother to buy a copy of or listen to again but it was a fun listen all the way through.

Negative Space - Hard, Heavy, Mean & Evil (1970)

Quote:

A crucial and thundering piece of proto-metal history! Negative Space's lone 1970 album is an impossibly rare private press treasure and one of the missing links connecting Blue Cheer to Black Sabbath. Full of roaring guitar, pounding drums, and vocals reverberating with angst fueled frustration, this intensely fierce piece of rock and roll lore is finally available digitally!

A sloppy, garage-metal kind of vibe.

Pere Ubu - 390 Degrees of Simulated Stereo (1981)

Quote:

Rack it with the classic bootlegs of yore. A long lost and simply breath taking live Ubu collection culled from 1981 recordings in Cleveland, London and Brussels featuring the band’s original line up with Peter Laughner and Tim Wright.

“The lo-fi recordings almost always sounded better to us than the hi-fi recordings.” David Thomas

The sound of a band at their anarchistic and experimental best, twisting the mainstream for their own ends. A white-knuckle cascade through their formative inventiveness, a unique document, now fully remastered it includes songs from the ‘Datapanik’ EP and ‘The Modern Dance’ LP.

Yeah, it really is! Kinda what I was saying before:
you never know where the leads will take you later.
Just bask in it for now - even if you have to skip a meal or two.

That Ubu album was just re-released. I have to think that's the one
'cause the original had a white cover.

rostasi 06-28-2021 12:59 PM

I'll have to check, but I think that even tho the yellow has been remastered,
the original 1981 one has two more songs.
