wankery isnt my thing and i tend to strongly dislike clean vocals in metal

BUT

protest the hero is one of the few bands from my childhood that can still rock my socks off

Because Killswitch Engage are the most overrated metalcore band on earth. I'll be happy to remember them for "My Curse" and that Dio cover and ignore most of the rest of their discography.

I remember thinking that they were so cool when I was 12 or whatever because of My Curse and I was a pussy who didn't like screaming in metal. Then I got As Daylight Dies and immediately got over them.
