They were one of my favorite bands in the mid 90s and as far as I remember, were pretty much on par in terms of popularity with Green day, part of the same punk-revival wave. Smash was huge. I haven't heard it in a while, just a few of the standout tracks but they still hold up for me.

I think they burned out quicker than Green day though. Never really made the switch post 00, while Green Day had with American idiot and 21st century breakdown.

Is 21st Century Breakdown any good?

eh, to me, albums are boring. If you have 2 or 3 good tracks in the age of streaming, I'll go see you live.

Yeah no, you're right, there's never any filler on albums and every song is 100% necessary to just like, get the vibe, man.

Sounds more like a product of mainly listening to milquetoast radio rock tbh

Sure. Whatever. The way they ship something isn't the problem. If you have 8 songs you think are good, you should release them. It's this artificial length we've tricked ourselves into believing has merit because, ya know, "art." Or worse, the A&R guys think will be a big hit!

There was a guy on one of Fantano's "Let's Argue" segments who said "The only way an album can get a 10 is if it's a concept album" and I can just see this smug **** who thinks that. I just knew so many of them in college and I always remember saying "yeah, maybe" and thinking "I hope this ****ing ******* gets hit by a bus so someone worth the oxygen can take their job."

It's the sort of person that thinks Dream Theater isn't Prog enough. Or insert whatever band is the easy-dunk for the elitist crowd. Whatever, it's the bus lane for all of them, I say.

So what you actually mean to say is you don't like prog fans but it feels too petty to just say that?

I don't hate prog fans. I hate smug clowns who think they have a premium on taste.

I also hate NIMBYs and people who live in San Francisco, neither of which I have a problem telling you.

That doesn't sound like something you'd hear at Ozzfest so he probably won't like it.
