They were an alternative BACK THEN, i remember when MTV played Sweater song and Buddy holly, Weezer stood out from all the depressed grunge bands that were popular at the time.
I was in high school when Weezer's first album came out and remember it quite well. They were part of the whole mainstream "alternative" rock thing going on at the time, which included grunge. I've come to like some of that stuff over the years, but at the time it mostly seemed like lame knockoffs of the likes of the Pixies and Husker Du to me.

You and me probably didn't experience the same music scene, i didn't grew up listening to good music.

No beatles, no Zeppelin, none of that, In fact i just had 1 rocker friend everybody else was listening to local rap like me.

So i had no reference to what good music was, the first bands i liked were Nirvana, Korn and Bad religion (and Weezer ofc) so back then, YEA, a band like Weezer was a huge deal for me, now i know alot more bands way better than Weezer but i still think they were a decent band.

I'm not anti-Weezer (now), I like a lot of their songs. I'm just saying when they came out they were part of the whole thing going on with mainstream rock at the time and they appealed to the same people who were listening to Nirvana.

Yea i know, but they weren't grunge.

i got your point earlier, it's all bunched up in the alternative scene.

Well, I sat down and listened to The Blue Album, and while I agree that it's truly a great album, I still prefer Pinkerton. It's much darker than the debut (heh, dark Weezer), while maintaining the hooks, and it feels more sincere and heartfelt. The lyrics also seem more personal to me. The blue one has "In the Garage", but I think that's about it.

Nice.

for being their debut album it's pretty good right?

Also did you hear a little beach boys influence in there? cause i did, it's in the back up vocals.

That might very well be, but I don't know a lot about the Beach Boys, haha.

Steve Miller would have been best suited for psychedelic rock.

Bon Scott could have easily joined Slade instead of Noddy Holder.

I think Werner Herzog should start a spoken word band.
