Bela Lugosi's Dead isn't even close to being the best Bauhaus song.

Absolutely. Not really sure how you could completely deny the existence of an experimental side to black metal though.

I think every Baihaus fan, myself included, would agree with that. It does raise the question though: what is the best Bauhaus song? I might be inclined to suggest "In the Flat Field" but that could easily change tomorrow.

You misunderstand, but that was my fault. I don't listen to death or black metal, I've been told before and listened to some EBM/EDM music + death metal in the past so I know that it exists.
I apologize if black metal also has that, I was unaware, but that's just because again, I don't listen to either.

Also, is that the only problem you have with my rant??
EDIT: never mind, I misread your post.

IMO, Metallica alone runs roughshod over the entire genre of black metal. No black metal band has had the success that they have had, namely four (five) undisputed classic heavy metal albums in Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All, (and the black album, but it's not thrash so it's not relevant in this discussion).

It's quite strange that you're putting down a genre which you admit that you're not familiar with.

The reason why no black metal band has had the success that Metallica have had is because they're not creating music deliberately aimed at the mainstream. Metallica have with the black album and subsequent albums, which is why they are so commercially successful and their first 4 albums are seen as classics on the back of this. Black metal bands such as Darkthrone have even refused award nominations because they don't want to be part of the mainstream music industry. I doubt that the vast majority of black metal bands could give a toss that they're not as successful as Metallica.

Also, commercial success should not dictate how good you think an album is. There's plenty of black metal albums that I'd rather listen to over Metallica's classic albums.

+1. Couldn't agree more.

Look at a band like Emperor though, they've sold 500,000+ copies of their albums. That is success for a black metal band.

Plus Metallica is NOT the greatest metal album ever; But they've certainly sold the most albums of any metal artist ever.

1. I am familiar with black metal, though I agree, I'm not familiar with the entire genre, just a few notable bands like Darkthrone, which I've repeatedly tried listening to and can't stand-BUT that doesn't change what I've said because...

2. I'm not at all talking about popularity here, Metallica's first four albums are quintessential parts of the heavy metal library, and that's simply indisputable. I've yet to hear of a black metal band that has had four critically acclaimed albums, let alone their first four.

3. I'm talking specifically about thrash metal being better than black metal using Metallica as an example of the success of the genre as a whole, which is why in my last post, I specifically said I'm not including the black album (and by extension, ANY of their albums after ...And Justice because those are not thrash metal albums) in this discussion. Read my post again bro.

4. Never said Metallica is the greatest metal band ever. That would be an unpopular music opinion and I would agree with you lol.

I'd probably go with "Dark Entries" or "Terror Couple Kill Colonel" but you're right, it would most likely change.
