you know just cause i have a preference towards something it doesn't mean i can't appreciate other things for what they are.

You can listen to Bulgarian polka music for all I care, you posted an opinion and I rebuked it. That's the point of the thread if you not noticed.

No, not usually cause it's not a deal breaker for me if an artist doesn't write his own lyrics, if i like them that's good enough if i personally connect with the lyrics i do seek out to know who wrote them and if the singer writes his own lyrics i connect with him more.

It just so happens the bands i gravitate to are bands like the pixies or Sonic youth, musicians who write their own stuff and i started to play guitar because i wanted to write and make my own songs.

this is why im telling ya'll this is just my preference i understand the point DJ was trying to make but i always thought the point of music was to make your own stuff, that you write your own lyrics and sing your own songs.

Unfortunately, these days I don't think that a lot of the people wanting a career out of music, that land that record deal, are generally people or bands anymore that think the only way music should be written, is by them and nobody else. It's pisses me off. But I think it's true. Maybe it isn't entirely fair for me to look down on the artist that doesn't write their own music. But it's just how I see things. The artist or band that writes all their own music, lyrics and all. I will always have a substantial more amount of respect for than someone that has everything written for them.

You and I see eye to eye on this. But I got nothing against Goofle or Urban for anything they said, I see their side of this, but I happen to agree with my own view, naturally.

I don't think it so much that they don't care to write their own material but if they don't have the creative freedom to do it or the label doesn't agree with the material they put out and feel like it won't sell they will provide them material that will.

A singer does not have to write their own songs and can still be called an artist if they are involved in the creation of their music and at least have some co credits.

The only time it irks me when a singer does not write their song is when they are dishonest and steal credits and lie like they wrote a song but really did not.
