well, Boards Of Canada and Battles have been hyped very much on pitchfork so I can guarantee that they're considered mainstream in my circle of friends.

The MHTRTC reissue got 10.00 ffs. I think somebody out there should at least have heard their name in that hypestorm.

isn't pitchfork that publication for hipsters, of which are supposed to be the opposite of mainstream?

Pitchfork and hipsters/indie kids are contradictions of themselves.

You're 14 and Battles and Boards of Canada are mainstream in your circle of friends?

The most 'independent' thing my friends listen to is Coldplay.

It's mostly because the indie crew often listen to bands who aren't even signed to a label.

That's why I spend my time with the introverted post-rockers and the nevershoutnever core because they usually don't judge your tastes. The indie kids are fine usually, and quite helpful, but when it comes to music, they're complete idiots.

Let me explain what's happening here with a little example:

"Oh my God I'm so fat!" - "Oh no honey, you're so not!"

"Oh my God I'm so mainstream!" - "What? You're anything but, you're so clever and smart and young and awesome!"

Everyone likes to do it once in a while, it's perfectly understandable, but please tone it down a fucking notch; it's not only transparent, but it's bloody irritating as well.

He is a she and has a complex about mainstream for some reason. I wish I knew that many genres and bands when I was 14! Although Battles are awful
