I was referring to her albums individually and overall not just one of her albums.

It seems your debating just for the hell of it lol
Multi-platinum means an album went platinum more than once. Pretty simple really, Jill Scott had an album that went platinum more than once, therefore she is a multi-platinum selling artist.

Actually I think I initially pointed it out to demonstrate that she has received mainstream recognition, because you were saying she hadn't. But, yes, a Grammy does generally imply a certain level of popularity because national distribution is one of the requirements for nomination.

But one of her albums is multi-platinum therefore she is a multi-platinum selling artist. You said she wasn't a multi-platinum selling artist because only one of her albums sold more than a million copies but it doesn't work like that.

Overall she has sold millions of albums.

She has sold 2 million off her first album and the rest havent done platinum.

But thats besides the point..... She isnt massively popular as you were implying (pop star level) and how do you know the requirements for nomination? Because based on what you are saying she should have been nominated last year for a grammy because her album last year debut at number one and received airplay on adult R&B stations and she didnt get any Grammy nominations She even was on the cover of billboard and still didnt get any. So being on magazine covers doesnt necessarily mean you are recognized by the industry itself.

Summer placed a Top Forty hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in every year from 1976 ("Love to Love You Baby") to 1984 ("There Goes My Baby").
Summer was the first artist to score three consecutive number-one double albums.
Summer was twice honored by the Dance Music Hall of Fame; once with her induction as a recording artist and again with the induction for her influential single "I Feel Love".[3]
Summer's music career has landed her as the eighth most successful female recording artist in history according to Billboard[citation needed].
Summer's career span of Billboard number-one Disco/Club Play hits spans from 1975's "Love to Love You Baby" through 2010's "To Paris with Love".
Summer was nominated for 2010 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but was not chosen.[4]
Summer was nominated for Best Original Song - Motion Picture of 35th Golden Globe Awards (1978) with John Barry.
But hey, she's under rated right?

Oh and while we're on the subject of platinum albums it depends where they're from.
In the US they're for 1 million sales, UK 300,000 sales, Germany 200,000 Australia 70,000 sales and so on and so on.

Incidental you only have to sell 4000 copies of an album to go platinum in Uruguay.

Not sure where you're getting this whole "pop star" thing from since I've never used that term to describe her, but she is very popular as evidenced by the amount of albums she's sold.

Because it's kind of common knowledge. But since you don't like to look things up on your own, here's a link.
