Yeah he's just some nobody that nobody really rates.

But hey, she's under rated right?

Oh and while we're on the subject of platinum albums it depends where they're from.
In the US they're for 1 million sales, UK 300,000 sales, Germany 200,000 Australia 70,000 sales and so on and so on.

Incidental you only have to sell 4000 copies of an album to go platinum in Uruguay.

I said inducted in the RHOF but then you have artists like Madonna who get inducted before her which is a down right disgrace. Donna Summer is very underrated as far as her contributions. She has been boxed in her entire career as a Disco artist when she was much more than that and even expanded the genre into an art form.

I never said Jack was a nobody I said he was underrated..... talent wise by the music industry itself

Has he gotten any awards/tributes for being one of the greatest guitarist of all time by the industry?

I think its unfair to base that off of ONE magazine. Most people/teens etc dont even know who Jack White is.

You insisted that she was mainstream and mainstream artists are pop stars. Jill Scott is an R&B/Neo soul singer she isnt a POP star.

Shes not very popular and she sold the most albums during her debut which ironically was the height of the neo soul movement D Angelo, Erykah Badu, etc. which was why it did well because that genre was very popular during the period but that most certainly isnt a mainstream genre now.

First Off, Grammys is full of politics and most of the Grammys are awarded off of popularity mostly.... Jill Scott had a great year on R&B stations last year and she didnt receive NOT one grammy nomination and her album even debut at number one.... She isnt a mainstream pop singer which is why she didnt get nominated in the R&B categories and which is why a singer such as Chris Brown won best R&B album although he is really a POP star. Thats how the Grammys operates currently.

Who said that though? The magazine writers or the industry itself.....
Janelle Monae opened for Prince and performed with Stevie Wonder, Funkadelic, and they claim she is the James Brown of today in some magazines but the music industry doesnt rank her high......

So basically to sum up an artist needs to win awards to show how respected they are in the industry, and things like critical acclaim, popular acclaim, the acclaim of your peers and continued success are meaningless.

Yet awards are full of politics and shouldn't be used as a measure of someone's acclaim.

OK glad that's sorted.

Why would you come to that conclusion?

You're right she's totally obscure, that's why no one in this thread has ever heard of her. Oh wait.

If Grammies are "awarded off of popularity mostly" and Jill Scott has won three, doesn't that imply that she's pretty popular? If Jill Scott had an album debut at number one, doesn't that mean that she's, by definition, popular?
