Yes Ziggy Stardust did well to get remembered after all these years, not bad for a fictional creation.
Say wha?? Ziggy isn't real, I guess you are going to tell me now that Spinal Tap is a fictional band just like Anvil, right?

arcade fire

animal collective

spoon

they haven't made another that lives up to it but i think clinic's 'internal wrangler' is destined to cult classic status.

deerhunter/atlas sound

franz ferdinand

jens lekman

gogol bordello

iron & wine

of montreal

rufus wainwright

sigur ros

the white stripes

technically 90s bands but i think they'll be talked about in 25 years:
radiohead
belle and sebastian
calexico
super furry animals
the magnetic fields
neutral milk hotel
wilco

I agree with those who said SOaD. I think regardless of what happens I think they're gonna do it. Even if their next record flops, which I don't see happening anyway. I don't think Serj will stay away forever. I also think Daron can be really under-estimated as well.

I'm also gunning for Shinedown. I think musically, lryically, they are brilliant. Sounds Of Madness was genuis, IMO.

It'll also be interesting to see what Nikki Sixx does for Sixx AM.

what bands will the majority if people still be talking about? not, 'list your favorite bands'

what this thread is really getting at is the fact that music history (especially rock/ pop) is dotted with music heavy weights, hendrix, the beatles, the who. what I want to know is who are the music heavyweights of now? Who are the bands that 2 years from now, people will look back and say defined these years? Changed the industry significantly?

Radiohead is usually the only answer I feel comfortable saying.

Radiohead?

Wow that's really pushing your imagination to find someone. Hmm I know I'll choose a band that have been known about almost 20 years already.

Hell I may as well choose The Cure or the Sex Pistols.

Especially when the original post requests bands "from 2000 and up."

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

.....radiohead isn't around and recording in the 2000s?

and the point is that I shouldn't be pushing my imagination. urban, you made a great point at one time in this thread pointing out that we still talk about a ****-ton of bands from 25 years ago, the majority in fact. I am considering who, from our generation will be remembered on a large scale as being important and influential.

Band that STARTED "from 2000 and up." It seems pretty clear from the first post.
