Man I can't believe how fast this thread moves...it makes my head spin. That's pretty awesome, it's a great thread.

I would participate because it's pretty awesome but my life isn't like it was - things are different lately. I haven't downloaded as much, I've been focusing on certain styles & artists, and I'm content with that. Very content, in fact. I feel like right now in my life I can't have any negativity. Not because I'm sad, quite the opposite. I've been in some of my greatest moods ever and that is why I've been listening to mostly 60s psych pop, soul, funk, etc. and it's just awesome. I'm amassed quite a bit of this stuff in the past few years, and while I am still digging deeper/further, I'm content revisiting all the stuff I have and playing it over and over, letting it sink deeper into my soul.

I don't know why I felt this was the right place to say this. Maybe because I love the idea of this thread so much I just wanted to say that, but explain why it doesn't feel right for me to participate right now. I'm also spending less time here and trying to spend less online in general, so even giving stuff to others is just too time-consuming right now. Yet at the same time, I'm so in love with just about everything I'm playing lately that maybe I should spread it.

While on reviews, I have two.

From Violent & Funky: I was afraid to try this because I'm not a fan of their new stuff, but I was quite pleased, it was a solid pop-punk album and I enjoyed listening to it. 7.5/10

S- I'm Not As Good At It Is You

TheFolkSlave sent me this. I have to give this one another listen when I'm not really tired, but I did like it a lot, she has a really pretty voice and it is full of emotion, they lyrics are really sad, but I really enjoy them and the music wasn't overpowering so the emotion in the vocal can shine. 8.5/10

I really like Goddamnit, Trouble Breathing and Nose over Tail are great songs.

Ścianka - Dni Wiatru

very interesting album....it starts off with waves of dark ambience and then sprints into very experimental rock and then returns to what seems to me to be a noisy psychotic rant (not knowing any Polish.....but his voice is very passionate and fierce)....i can honestly say that i've never heard anything quite like this...the opening song has this odd sense of feeling like the woman in 'Silence of the Lambs' clawing away at the walls of her entrapment as Buffalo Bill screams at her to put the lotion in the fucking basket....and at the same time it is warm and inviting....honestly i feel all the songs accomplish this sort of duel feel....amazing album James....thanks

Jawbox - For Your Own Special Sweetheart

although i've heard this album many times before it was suggested....i have to admit that for the most part my Jawbox phase is over and i have not really sat down and listened to them in well over five years....so this was almost new as my ears are a bit different these days

this album being their major label debut but still really packing a punch....by far 'Savory' is one of the greatest songs ever written for this type of music at least and 'Motorist' is up there also....the opening rack of this album is very reminiscent of Jawbox's frist two releases....kind or raw and very melodic yet completely in your face....like a cute kitten screaming at you...you just can't help but smile and say "awwww".....this continues throughout the entire album with one difference....there are some real wonderful hints as to what will become of these players.....this as much an abrasive take on Burning Airlines as it is an evolution of Jawbox....still an amazing album after so many years.....thanks Violent & Funky for rekindling an old love affair

so i started listening to this this morning with only your words to guide what i might think of it....my first thought about four minutes into the first track was post rock huh?....seems more like post math rock and why does it remind me of Bastro?....well same lead player....as both Bastro and Squirrel Bait....so again you've made me wonder "where the fuck have i been?! "

....so we have David Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke! on the same album....this just reeks meticulous perfection....this album resembles so much of what i already really enjoy and yet sounds like nothing that i really have....the entire album is as complex as it is soothing and has wonderful hints of the roots of the musicians previous works....great album that requires numerous listens

Dystopia-The Aftermath

Bob described this as nihilistic punk. My wealth of knowledge on nihilism reaches as far as The Big Lebowski so I knew it was basically the belief in nothing. As for the reasoning and belief of the culture I am clueless. So I have done a little research. Off to wikipedia I go, wondering what wonders will befall me while this album is puking up some of the ugliest crust I have heard right into my earholes.(ew, in a good way)

So after some research and lots of big scary foreign words i can't pronounce, I see that nihilists believe that there is no meaning or purpose in life and it's very complicated stuff. It's interesting because it's one viewpoint I have never heard a musical artist supporting. Normally artists love to share these sorts of things with you and if I do know any nihilistic artists they definetly don't throw it around. Back to the music, it just gets better and better, really heavy and DIY Crust, sounds genuinly angry and not manafactured angry like many other Punk related bands of this sort. Favourite track was Population Birth Control. Amazing song, cool lyrics and as horrible as you want Crust/Sludge stuff to be!

Empyrium - Weiland

Empyrium is a neofolk band from Germany that started out by playing symphonic folk/doom metal. Later thay changed their style to neofolk. The band was active during 1994 – 2002. They reformed in 2010.
Weiland was their last album and in my opinion their best work. This is a really great neofolk album that was hugely influental to me when I was younger. I hope you like it.
