Yeah the Rapture are great, but well have to wait for a follow-up to see if they take it anywhere...In the meantime, LCD Soundsystems the only punkfunk for me...

Hmm...What was the topic again?
ok the debut album ripped off zeppelin and sabbath riff wise, and to an extent jack white rips off frank blacks vocals...but as big3 said, they are innovative not only with their music (which incidently does encompass the blues heavily but in a simplistic format not seen before), but their style, aura and end product. there hasnt been anything like them in the past.
by the way, innovative means something ahead of the time which paves the way for other factions to follow...well judging by music around at the moment (im thinking the subways, black keys, DFA '79 etc) id say they fit nice and snug into that term.

and the rapture blow HHH out of the water.

But doesn't that mean, unfortunately, that not-so-amazing bands, such as The Hives are going to be remembered as innovative? And what about catalyst bands like The Strokes, who blatantly steal from the past (especially the GODS AND GODESSES OF THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, diss them at your own peril....You will spend your life in sh*t music Hell) are going to be remembered as innovative? Look the entire music scene thats respawned since Julian Casablancas started murmuring about Kim Deal's porno pot onstage? I love the guys and everything but does their music really show initiative? Are we just changing the criteria for innovation now, because in modern music, the sparsity of it forces us to do so?

And will I ever find my sense of humour again?

You're out of your mind, The Rapture are infinitely better than any other Dance-Punk band. !!! and LCD Soundsystem are the only bands that even come close.

2. As far as the White Stripes originality, there aren't many genuinely new styles left to create. When everyone is jumping to make something diffrent things get exhausted really quick. I don't think the fact that the stripes play the blues is why they got the title of innovative, but rather their entire packages, as a whole landed them that title.
There are innovative bands coming out the wordwork these days. Go listen to Noise or Post-Rock and tell me those bands aren't some of the most original to come out in years.

3. Honestly, I've never heard a television or go4 song, and I've heard Velvet Underground and hate it all. Their overblown to all hell in my opinion.
You're missing out on Television and Gang of Four, and I'm not sure I can even respect the opinion of someone who loves The White Stripes and hates The Velvet Underground.

Anyway, I think Hot Hot Heat are pretty good. The Knock Knock Knock EP is the best thing they've ever done, and they've been going downhill ever since.

Television are alright , although it`s only really Marquee Moon that stands out , Gang of Four were never really much to begin with they`re just copied by a load of crap indie bands.

And the Velvet Underground in my opinion are the most overrated band of all time.
