I heard from somewhere that mice don't even like cheese. Try putting some bread in there. If he dismisses grain/flour based product, it's likely he's getting his food elsewhere. If that's the case, you'll have to shore up any possible food access venues and give him no other option.

Vanilla, when you say you can't afford to have a cat, you're surely not talking monetarily, are you? Cats are quite cheap to keep (other than vet fees of course) and mostly they're happy to stay indoors if there's no one to let them out, so unlike dogs you could have one even while working. I just wonder what the obstacle is there? A trip down to the local pound to rescue some cute little cat might be just what you need.

On a cute level, this has to be smashing the meter up! He did this himself by the way, just climbed in as it was cosy and warm. That's one of our other two cats there in the corner, Molly, watching him. She's his sister.

and THIS is Eddie! Don't hate him because he's beautiful. If being handsome was a crime they'd have to throw away the key!

That's true, although here I might need to pay $100 bucks to get a cat from the pound. I will certainly consider it though. And dear Lord those kitty's are adorable. I want to steal them!!!

You have to PAY to give an animal a loving home? Christ! That makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?

What about a friend/colleague who has or knows someone who has a cat that just had kittens? Or check the local vets for ads : loving home required. Seems like there's always someone trying to find a home for kittens, and if there's anything cuter than a kitten, I don't want to know about it!

Plus, cats can be very helpful: look how the guys guard my sister's bed from unwelcome visitors (well they think it's theirs actually; they just kindly let her use it)...

Mind you, they do need to eat!

But sometimes they'll even watch each other while you're out...

That's true, I definitely want my kitty fixed! Well I am planning to go overseas in a year or so I wouldn't have the heart to leave one behind you know? I get ridiculously attached to animals.
