maybe you know about more "primitive" cultures than i do. but a lot of africa is ****ed up cause they basically live in a half assed modern society with a ton of killing and poverty. same with latin america to a somewhat lesser extent. i would say probably the majority of the world's poor/starving don't live in some alternative lifestyle by choice they just happen to be born in the wrong country that we raped for centuries to make ourselves rich.

Damn, sorry for dragging this thread down.

IF I WERE A GOD!

Delete all religions.
Spread the wealth evenly.
Make everyone buy into a coop.
Everybody eats.
Sick people get treated.
Old people die with dignity.
F*ck whoever you want to as long as they are of legal age.

^this.

I'm far from a pundit on anthropology but I've seen a few documentaries and read a few books here and there that explain why western societies 'advanced' in the directions they have while Africa, the continent of human origin, stayed 'behind'. There are of course examples that contradict that notion. That scene from that play I can't remember the name of where a very righteous young African American woman quips about how ancient Africans were performing surgeries while Europe was still "tattooing blue dragons!" comes to mind. But basically technology evolved from necessity. When humans migrated from Africa to Europe they were faced with completely different struggles (climate is a huge example) that forced them to alternate from living in small huts and hunting to primitive agriculture and more complex sedentary living. You can't exactly just go out foraging for berries when it's snowing all over the damned place. You'd have to set some **** aside. And those little huts and campfires ain't exactly gonna cut anymore either.

EDIT:

I have no idea what my point behind all that was but oh well, it's the truth.

Just a couple examples:

Spoiler for Youtube Vids - prolly NSFW:

I have a great respect for cultures still kicking it old school. There is nothing wrong with working your entire life and living with nature as opposed to dominating it. I think it's a beautiful existence, and it makes me sad that I as much as I say I would love to live that way I know I'd never make it out there.

if i were satan in chula's universe:

-go to the recycle bin and undelete all the religions to troll god cause he forgot to hold down shift
-steal all the wealth from the proletariat masses and use it to build an effigy to chula which i leave in his yard, making the populace hate him
-make everyone buy a coupe. financing is available. bad credit? no credit? no problem.
-everyone eats a little too much and i simultaneously clog all the toilets in the world
-old people are constipated
-age of consent raised to 65

See that's great. That's awesome. But that's obviously not what we're talking about. Those are cultures that have resources and figured out how to survive off them. That's completely different from areas of the world without those resources or that have been drained of them, that are plagued with disease, etc.

i got you... we made different assumptions about the pic. i know there are tribes out there doing their thing but i assume they are mostly the exception.

i think you'd like this documentary i saw on the bushmen of the kalahari called "the great dance." that **** really made me respect hunting. like how it would have been for our ancestors when that was the only option. i really honestly don't know if i would've been cut out for that lifestyle.

Sorry, I totally ignored your previous question. I was just asking for an example of somewhere that wants a better life but has been forced into what they consider a terrible existence.

I don't know a lot about African or tribe culture, so I definitely can't argue with any reasonable certainty against what you are saying. However, the last sentence of my original response (that Chula quoted) is the real point I was trying to make. The conversation just kind of expanded from there.

I understand people are starving and everything, I see the commercials for it. I think it's sad, but without knowing how they feel I'm not going to feel sorry for them. Actually, even if I know how they feel I'm not going to feel sorry for them. I'm either going to make an effort to make it better, or write it off as just another sh*tty thing that exists in this world. There isn't enough time nor do I have enough energy to solve or sob over all the problems humans face.

As JWB pointed out, common sense would have you believe they want quality of life improvements when considering nutrition, and maybe shelter. But do they actually want to live differently? Idk, you don't know, and it's certainly a personal thing that can't be applied to an entire culture/tribe.

It was pointed out in another thread how some of the people in these areas were attacking hospitals trying to help them. Take that into consideration.

obviously i can't say some **** like "everyone who's ****ed up doesn't like it" without intervieiwing everyone on earth. but seriously.... watch vice news. particularly any of the vids relating to africa. you'll feel pretty dumb real quick. no disrespect. but it's just human nature, people don't like being poverty stricken and wartorn.

@ the second part... i'm assuming you're talking about the ebola ****. basically some africans have weird beliefs about witchcraft and ****. its not that they don't actually want the help its that they don't trust those people are actually trying to help them. but they're basically misguided.
