Girls: What do you look for in a guy?

We have winterslastbreath's thread where she asks about her boyfriend, and so I was thinking it might be nice for the women here (winterslastbreath, jibber, etc.) to say what sort of things women look for in guys. I think us guys can always learn things from girls about this. And also, what do you look out for (as in stuff that's bad)?

jibber 03-13-2004 11:30 PM

well, sense of humor for sure, sweet, intelligent (doesn't have to be a genious but i need to be able to carry on an inteligent conversation with the guy) looks, but its not #1, i've found ALOT of times that a with a guy that i initially wasn't all that atracted to, but who had a great personality, after getting to know him, i start to find him a hell of alot hotter. its completely true that who you are inside reflects on the outside.

winterslastbreath 03-13-2004 11:47 PM

that's what i'm talking about. haha.. hmm.. here we go.

i mostly look for someone to have fun with and laugh with. someone that i don't really have to care what i look like (in my pjs, etc.) to impress him or i don't really have to care what i say around him to just act stupid. they'll listen and try to help in anyway possible whenever i need to talk or even just vent. i like someone who likes to take control as in making the first attempt to talk and such. someone outgoing. likes going places with me and/or my friends. i love kisses and huggs, so yeah. caring about another and not being selfish is a plus. sweetness, but not for the motive of getting in the pants and etc. i like when a guy does something nice, just becuz he thought of you and wanted to. openness.... it's always good to talk about things instead of keeping them from another.

i don't like... a guy being insecure about himself. i don't think any relationship a guy with insecurities has will work out right. i mean, maybe a few yea becuz almost everyone has some, but not hating your whole self 24/7 and all that. i don't like when guys are okay and fun one minute, then ******* and ignoring you the next. impatience. damn get over it-it may take a little longer for us girls to get ready! i definately don't like when a guy acts differently around his friends than you... or if they want you to hear all their problems, but you can't even get a word in about yours. self centered guys. liars... i don't do liars. i can't stand it. are you not man enough to tell the truth? ok so maybe the truth will hurt me, but it's the truth and i deserve to hear it. i don't like how some guys will just meet you, and ask you when you're going to get with him, or something like that. i just met you dude. i don't know where your tongue has been. oh.. saying somethign just to make me happy. no. saying something just to shut me up or make me happy won't make me happy if it's not truely what you feel.

hm.. i figured that paragraph was getting too long.

when i first meet a guy, i think i tend to notice their height and weight first. i don't know why, you just look at a person and see that first i guess. smile, eyes and hair. i notice hands too a lot?? lol i notice feet, yes i do. and their style/appearance can say a lot too most of the time.

i can't really think of anything else... but i'm sure if i do i'll add.

winterslastbreath 03-13-2004 11:47 PM

damn.. that was long. sorry guys.

very very very true.

Beor Uaine 03-13-2004 11:52 PM

Do you pay more attention to hands and feet? What are you implying? Does size matter?

jibber 03-13-2004 11:53 PM

another big turn on is a guy who can have fun just doing nothing. i was with this one guy who always needed to be doing something. he could never just hang out and relax. oh, and if the guy skis he instantly gets higher on the hotness meter :D

winterslastbreath 03-13-2004 11:57 PM

haha if the guy skis!?!! :p:

... i do notice if they're big or small. i don't know why though. it's not that i automatically think of their dingaling size. lol really i don't. i think. :D

jibber 03-13-2004 11:59 PM

well ya, if the guy skis, i know that we have at least one thing in common. plus skiier guys are just so damn hot :)

jibber 03-14-2004 12:00 AM

and musicians. i have such a thing for musicians

winterslastbreath 03-14-2004 12:01 AM

oh yes, musicians. that's definately a plus. i'm in love with music, of course it would be a plus!

jibber 03-14-2004 12:04 AM

yep, and piercings and tatoos. seriously, i'm such a sucker for those :p:

winterslastbreath 03-14-2004 12:06 AM

i did miss a few turn ons. haha. piercings more than tats for me. i melt for piercings.

Rockafella Skank 03-14-2004 12:07 AM

What sort of piercings? Because speaking as a guy I sort of think guys should never get piercings.

winterslastbreath 03-14-2004 12:10 AM

i like lips piercings.. or maybe tongue. although once i kissed a guy with a tongue ring and it gave me fever blister or whatever those are in my mouth the next day.

i like tats on the arms if they look right around the muscle and what not.

jibber 03-14-2004 12:10 AM

ears (but not diamond studs, those bug me), eyebrows (mmmmmm) lip-ring, very nice, one guy i went out with had his nipple pierced, quite nice :) and a friend of mine has uhhh how should i put this, a peircing that seems like it would have been VERY painful, thats just odd in my opinion

jibber 03-14-2004 12:10 AM

tats on a guys back are the best, damn i love those. but not big tacky ones, simple, smallish with less colors do it for me.

winterslastbreath 03-14-2004 11:30 AM

sooo i guess me and jibber are the only girls who know what they like in a guy. :p:

ick.. i think i'd question the guy's sexuality if he had a piercing down there.

Haahaa I just saw this, so I'll reply ;)
Well I think I've dated to and been attracted to all kinds, but for me now I definitely think it's sense of humor and intelligence above everything else. The guy definitely doesn't have to be a model but I need to on some level find him attractive. I tend to like quirky, nerdy guys so that tends to attract me, while it might not someone else. I tend to be drawn to the creative types with offbeat personalities.

ex: I was having a conversation with a male friend of mine and he was commenting how he went out with a bunch of guy friends and they went to a bar. One of these guys apparently is a bit odd, and he went to the bar and asked for a glass of chocolate milk...when my friend was relaying this story to me, he was like what?? why would you order milk at a bar? For me, I was like omg that's the ****ing coolest thing ever! Hook me up! lol
I love guys that march to the beat of their own drummer and don't care what others think, don't try to impress me with money, have a sense of personal style, but don't look like they spent hours attempting to dress "cool"
ok I could go on but that's all I'm writing for now...lol

I still maintain though that for every guy there's a perfect girl and vice verse so it depends on the person. What i just described may be the exact opposite of what someone else would be looking for, so it all depends I guess. And hell you may fall in love with someone who is exactly the opposite of what you expected which is exactly what happened to me so go figure ;)

okies my 2 cents :P

Thrice 03-14-2004 03:43 PM

Damn...you three should right a "Guys book when it comes to girls" or something...that helps alot.

my boyfriend now is the complete opposite of me. i think it lets us have more converse conversations and they are more interesting from two different, oppisote two points of view. although not so opposite that we can't get along.

we'll write a book to all the guys who have no idea what they're doing.

jibber 03-14-2004 06:48 PM

haha, its so funny, i have such a long list of things that i find really attractive, and really it adds up to the kind of skate/punk kinda immage, but for some reason i always end up with the gap-ads, its just weird. cept my one serious relationship, he was pretty much my typical picture of ever thing i've described so far.

winterslastbreath 03-14-2004 06:58 PM

then what happened if he was much your typical picture?

if i'm allowed to ask. :)

jibber 03-14-2004 07:01 PM

heh, wow where to start. everything was going really really great untill about 13 months or so. after that, we started having problems, he started to think that he couldn't trust me, like he was always thinking that i was flirting with guys at work and stuff, and we would fight about it ALOT. so then long story short, we had a hhuuuugggeeee fight, he went out, got drunk, fooled around with some girl, told me the next morning cuz he felt so horrible, and we broke up. like i said before, it reaaallllyyyy didn't end well.

winterslastbreath 03-14-2004 07:03 PM

i'm sorry to hear that.. that's a stupid reason to go out and get drunk. basterds. really though. what goes on in some guys' mind? i can't even begin to understand sometimes.

jibber 03-14-2004 07:07 PM

haha, you and me both. ya i dunno, it was at his friends 19th birthday party, so he just kinda drank more than he intended, and ended up being an *******, but that was a while ago, but that kinda put me off long term relationships for a while at least.

winterslastbreath 03-14-2004 07:12 PM

that's understandable. and it sucks.

i had one really really extra bad relationship. we were going out for a bit and he said he loved me and with his charm i fell for him (at least i thought i did) and then BAM. tells me he never loved me, and he only told me what i wanted to hear so i would be happy. i was like you ****ing ****. sooo for awhile i didn't trust anyone. and blah blah.

then this long term relationship i'm in, the guy (my bf now) got me to open up some how.. and yea. i just plain hate the other guy.

winterslastbreath 03-14-2004 07:13 PM

oh and i forgot he cheated on me with 2 other girls.

he's such a great guy right.

jibber 03-14-2004 08:17 PM

wow thats harsh, what an ass. i dunno, with me and my ex its weird, cuz we're still good friends (we were REALLY good friends beforehand, so we didn't want to throw that away), like in between relationships we both always kind of wanna get back together, but every time we talk about it, it just ends up too comlpicated.

Thrice 03-15-2004 01:28 PM

i was good friends with my ex before we dated... then she cheated on me so i dont even look at her now...

winterslastbreath 03-15-2004 04:06 PM

good. i don't care what the "excuse" is for cheating. it will all be wrong and not acceptable and hardly forgivable.

jibber 03-15-2004 04:33 PM

ya, thats why things are all screwed up with us. he keeps saying how we were perfect together, my response is "until you cheated" and the conversation goes in circles from there.

jibber 03-17-2004 07:28 PM

well, seeing as how us girls have given alot of input on here, how bout we turn it over to the guys. what do guys typically look for in a girl?

winterslastbreath 03-17-2004 07:58 PM

nice idea. :p:

Thrice 03-17-2004 08:05 PM

Faithful

Hot

Smart

Funny

Nice

Outgoing

DJ_Jester 03-18-2004 08:58 AM

Well I guess I'll respond since you girls were so kind...

I'm into the girl that has a strong mind. She's smart and can carry on a conversation even debate with me. Yeah, so we'll argue but that's good sometimes I think. I really like a girl who won't back down in a good argument.

I can't stand a girl who is just a "whatever" girl. Just going with the flow and never creating a presence for herself. Like at a party... is she gonna cling to me all night or can she stand on her own?

I'm into the girl who's motivated. She has interests and goals and pursues them and is determined to do stuff on her own... but still is willing to take help if needed.

I want a girl who will participate. I don't like that idea of a trophy woman who stands on the sidelines while I do something. I want to be able to share activities with her. You don't have to be athletic but playing a game of horse is cool for me. You don't have to be knowledgable about some project I'm into but give ideas anyway just for the sake of participating in my life. I dance at clubs and stuff... I don't care if you go out there and do the Eileen! Just come out on the floor and hang out with me!

She definitely has to have a sense of humor. I'm a cornball and I'd rather get laughing "oh gawd's" than rolling eyes.

She has to have confidence in herself. Although I feel needed when I get in that nurturing mode, I HATE when it becomes my sole function in a relationship to comfort and boost an ego. In a relationship I'm defintely overly nice and serve my girl to a fault but c'mon... do something on your own damnit! You can do 'this' and yes yes yes you look great. If I wasn't attracted to you, would I still be with you? If I was into that other chick wouldn't I have dumped you already? And if I was really THAT type of guy, wouldn't I already be at the bar with that hot blonde instead of sitting here defending myself to you? "You rock, you're hot, you can do it, you're not stupid, that girl is ugly, no I'm not drunk." Man I really should make flash cards sometimes with those and just hand her one when she makes that face... oh you know that face! Don't act stupid. :-P

All right... so that turned into what I don't look for in a girl... but you get the idea. ;)

well put. expect for me change all the "chicks" to guys and "guy" to chick :p:

Eltiraaz 03-18-2004 10:24 AM

What do I like look for in a girl.. well I dont want to apppear shallow but I do like looks. I mean when it boils down to it, who doesnt? However, If I had the choice of smokin hot babe whos a bitch and a so~so girl whos got an awesome personality I would take the so~so girl.

I like smart obviously I hate trying to talk to girls that only understand make-up and guys.. They need to be pretty intelligent, also have some interests that I share although not too many, because its like someone said earlier, it makes for easier, and better conversation when you have opposing viewpoints. I also need a girl whos just a little crazy, like wild.. i dunno because when im in that crazy lets party im a horny animal mindset.. she better be too haha.

now purely speaking of physical feature.. sorry cant help it :D.... a nice stomach turns me right on about a girl, face is important too as well as hair, but like i said im not totally superficial...... *heehee*

I just like girls!

Are you sure that was from the tongue ring and not the guy you were kissing?

winterslastbreath 03-18-2004 11:00 AM

:( same things my friends said too. i didn't have the heart to tell him that either he needs to clean his tongue ring, or he needs to clean himself.
