Not disagreeing with that. I just see a lot more of it from the left, not because it's more common but because it's cool and hip for people my age to pretend to care about "social issues."

That's kinda true. The far right on this issue consists of people like the tampon bladder kid, and nobody wants to openly be that guy.

Exactly. Also, for some reason this reminded me of that time the video of that one girl eating her own tampon went viral... yuck.

This is the best response to the OP I think.

Aw. I was hoping it was some five minute Youtube thing...

Nope. 144 characters is all it takes to qualify as a tirade these days.

what I found searching youtube for "tampon boy" This is for Batlord only, if you're not Batlord don't watch it.
Spoiler for #tampon boy (trigger warning: watch at your own risk):

The Batlord 11-07-2016 02:57 PM

Within the first minute he called his viewers "bae". Bitch ****.

Tristan_Geoff 11-07-2016 03:11 PM

Oh, well ****. Gonna have to think about some things for a while.

Paedantic Basterd 11-07-2016 03:55 PM

See, **** like that prevents us from having a real discussion about this. The fact that women have some privileges does not negate the privileges that men have, nor does it mean there are not areas where men have fewer rights than women.

It's when information is delivered with that kind of attitude that our ability to progress deteriorates. How can we have a discussion about equal rights when both sides are only interested in themselves?

Each side of every argument in history is only interested in themselves. That's why they cared enough to raise a fuss in the first place.

*shrug*

Emotionally charged political issues are impossible to compromise on because all discussion does is polarize views further. :(

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 11-07-2016 04:00 PM

The issue is a lack of evidence behind statements. It all comes down to my facts/feelings comment. Like when people bring up the wage gap without researching it beforehand. Men do it too though, don't get me wrong. That's just the most popular example.

It's a bit ****ed. But at any rate, I try to be open while seeing the BS in some stuff until I see something that might change my perspective, and then adapt to that. I'm certainly not saying that women don't have it hard, but in some situations men do as well and I didn't really come to understand that until today.

Paedantic Basterd 11-07-2016 04:22 PM

Life expectancy, tho. Not sure who to blame for that discrepancy.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 11-07-2016 04:24 PM

The real joke is that we all argue over rights as if we won't all die eventually anyway.

Male life is more valuable for its ability to keep female life alive? In evolutionary terms at least.

Uh, well sure, but we don't have to really experience that part, which is why people think the living part is so important.

I'd always kinda thought it pertained to males' propensity for greater risk taking. Like that guy who climbs cranes on top of skyscrapers and then does pull-ups off them without a tether--I bet he skews the data.

It's really not though. Which is why I watch all you try-hards bumble around in confusion while I eat and drink too much.

I imagine that behavior is motivated by what I already said.

Hey, I'm not honking life's horn here. I'm just trying to pull myself through it with minimal discomfort caused to myself and others.

It's funny you say that, just last night I got into a heated argument with my sister at a family meal. She brought up cultural appropriation and I rolled my eyes so hard I could see the inside of my skull.

The Batlord 11-07-2016 04:41 PM

All my family are Fox News types who claim to be libertarians but are really just neo-cons with delusions of grandeur who make any political discussion into a completely miserable and aggressive ****fest. So I just kind of sit back and let them make assassination jokes about Obama and eat their turkey. No idea what a family meal with sane people would be like. I probably wouldn't be there either TBH.

I have one person in my immediate family, so the holidays are actually really awesome. We just make a ton of food, eat it for a week, and enjoy each other's company. At Christmas we buy each other dozens of gifts and that's kind of it.

It's nice in theory to have a big family, but in practice it's just a bunch of Irish Catholics who are uncomfortable with shows of affection watching football for four hours and then scattering like cockroaches once dinner is over.

Goofle 11-07-2016 04:48 PM

It's a discussion over human rights. Anything else is kind of irrelevant even if it's an issue for retain people. Achieve equal rights for men first.

Why men? We've historically had a bigger leg up than women.

You don't see a problem with cultural appropriation?

Can you honestly look at a weaboo with a straight face?

The argument started because at her school (she's an elementary school teacher) they had a vote for a mascot. I can't remember the finalists, but one of the options was "the Warriors" which was then scrapped because apparently that makes me people think of Indians which in turn is culutural appropriation. She actually tried to draw a comparison from this to wearing black face.

With that being said,

I think not wearing black face comes down to whether or not you're a douchebag or not, it has nothing to do with "appropriating culture." I believe in complete freedom. If you want to dress up like a Native American for Halloween, go for it. If you want to sit around and watch anime all the time and cosplay in public, do ya thang bruv.
