Seems to me like someone is more willing to cling to a modern colloquial usage than use what's appropriate for the context.

Like is there really a loss of communication when I say This Heat is a good band?

"This Heat is" sounds fine

but if you went to the concert last week you'd say "I just saw them"

Why? I don't know

But "I just saw it" sounds atrocious
