Nah, I think you're right. With that being said, Age of Ultron is probably my least favourite film from the MCU so maybe I'm a little biased there.

**** you, that movie was totally underrated. Maybe it wasn't as focused as the first Avengers, but it had a far superior villain, actually delved into the characters, and didn't have one of those Final Fantasy boss fights at the end where the villain (the Chitauri) just kind of shows up out of nowhere whereas before the heroes had been fighting a completely different enemy (Loki).

Age of Ultron > 1st Avengers

Okay so you're wrong but you've convinced me to re-watch both the Avengers films tonight so thanks.

Nah, you just need to read The Ultimates volume 1 to understand that The Avengers was just a 2nd-rate version of a better story. Granted, The Ultimates is also superior to Age of Ultron, but reading The Ultimates really shows how the movie flubbed the Chitauri.

I judge movies for how good they are, not for how they measure up to comic books. If it were the other way around, Spider-Man 1 & 2 wouldn't be so fantastic, but it is, and Sam Raimi is a genius.

About this point, it seems impossible for there to be a bad MCU film.

When you see just how awesome the Chitauri invasion was, and how well integrated it was into the story of The Ultimates, then you can't help but feel that the final battle of The Avengers was lazy writing. But I thought The Avengers was overrated even before I read The Ultimates, so...

But seriously, read The Ultimates. It just might be the best Avengers story ever written, and quite possibly can't be topped simply due to the alternate universe, deconstructionist nature of the comic. It's like the Avengers meets Watchmen. Ant-Man puts his wife into the hospital in a domestic squabble, Thor may or may not be a mental patient, the Hulk repeatedly attempts to rape or eat multiple people, Iron Man is still an alcoholic, and Captain America is a cheap, white knighting relic of the 40s. And best of all, it literally predicted Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

And Spider-Man 1 & 2 are also overrated. They were great for their time, and I LOVED them as a kid, but now that comic book movies have "evolved", they're relics. Fun relics, but they just don't hold up anymore. Even Amazing Spider-Man 1, as ****ing flawed as it is, might actually be better. James Garfield is certainly superior to Tobey MaGuire at the very least.

Well I'm not holding out the most hope for Thor: Ragnarok given the last Thor films abysmal quality.

Dark World wasn't the best MCU film by any stretch of the imagination, but it was still head-and-ass better than the first Thor movie. It's also the only MCU movie to actually use the movie interpretation of Loki in a way that didn't feel forced. And that was pretty big as far as I'm concerned.

Okay now you're REALLY wrong. I never quite understood why Tobey McGuire got so much slack for that role, I still think he was pretty convincing all things considered. Regardless, Homecoming should kick some major ass despite the horrible name choice/logo they used when they revealed it.
