Yeah, I can't believe Paprika will be his last film. Not a bad way to finish off an amazing career, but what a humongous loss to Japanese animation...:(

Blade Runner(The Final Cut, to be exact)
http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/145/bladerunnere.jpg

7/10

watched this last night. it was my first time watching it to be honest, and there were a good amount of underlying things i didn't really get or catch. that, and the slow pace of the movie was kind of a turn off. what i really did enjoy though was alot of the sci-fi scenery/imagery and the musical score which i thought was amazing. I also liked how it tried to make commentary on what it is to be human, but some of it was too subtle that when i read the wikipedia of it I was still confused. i'll probably watch it a few more times to really get but for now this is how i feel about it.

Violent & Funky 09-06-2010 12:50 PM

I didn't really like Blade Runner FWIW, and I'm a huge sci-fi dystopia guy...

Antonio 09-06-2010 01:08 PM

what does FWIW mean?

TheCunningStunt 09-06-2010 01:10 PM

oh, ok. thanks.

Loved it! Laughed throughout the whole film.
I don't get the lack of love this movie received.

adidasss 09-06-2010 04:31 PM

Too much DIY improv for me. And I didn't think it was particularly funny...:\

I thought it was a good movie. Something I have a problem with that kind of takes away from the movie and other movies like this is knowing that it was based on a true story I had to filter out what really happend and what could have been an exageration.

stormjh 09-06-2010 05:54 PM

Just got back from Scott Pilgrim, the soundtrack was excellent, all the music for the pretend bands was written by bands I like, Beck, Metric and Broken Social Scene, I think I actually prefer Sex bob-omb to Beck and tehre was a Black Lips song and some Blood Red Shoes playing in different places too, good stuff.

And the film was good too.

Wait, that's not what it's called, it's 'The Boat That Rocked'. :s

Mojo 09-06-2010 06:04 PM

^^ Not in the US, it isn't.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...landposter.jpg

Really enjoyed it. I thought Jesse Eisenberg was great. Hated Superbad but really liked this.

stormjh 09-06-2010 07:50 PM

Well The Boat That Rocked is a much better name, I love Bill Nighy in it, in fact, I love him in everything.

Thats what I thought too! Theres the American name and the British name for it. I thought it was great anyway. I loved the music and the characters. Makes me want to live in the 60s :)

Mojo 09-07-2010 03:51 AM

Yeah, as far as i am aware it was only renamed for the US and Canada, which happens a lot.

FETCHER. 09-07-2010 03:58 AM

Just watched Liar Liar for the first time since childhood. I'm going to lie I expected much more of it. Was still good though.

a great documentary on the subject....from the "roots" of urban painting in NYC to gallery shows in Berlin....just a good world view on graffiti....the Japan part was amazing....this one kid just blew my mind with his talent....i suggest this to anyone interested in graffiti culture and or just wanting to see some beautiful art from all over the world

dankrsta 09-07-2010 12:56 PM

^This sounds very interesting. I've always wanted to know more about graffiti art.

bob. 09-07-2010 04:18 PM

i would defiantly suggest this documentary as an opener on the subject....it really creates a more world-wide aspect on graffiti...and concentrates on the art and artist as opposed to the legality

It's every bit as bad as I heard it was. But it's kind of like Toys in that respect, where I have a weird soft spot for it, just because it's sort of odd.

Low budget British comedy/rom com given extra marks for the cast that features many stars of the small screen and a cameo from Ed Tudor Pole! Saxon on the soundtrack too :D

Don't buy it though- just worth a watch.

i hadn't seen it since i was really young so i figured it needed another view.

it was alright. it had some great moments but there was a ton of filler and annoying redundancies.

I love that movie! Got to see it at the cinema a few years back and I still laughed my ass off.

simplephysics 09-07-2010 06:29 PM

Seeing Machete tonight, as long as Lindsay Lohan's character meets a quick and violent death I'll leave satisfied.

TheCunningStunt 09-07-2010 06:31 PM

Eric has inspired me to download the MP collection.

I've only ever seen the holy grail, and that was when I was 14. It made me laugh loads and I discussed it with people the next day in school.

I need to see Life of Brian and the other one.

Life of Brian is great.

I do not watch films often, but this guy makes me throw away my pencils/brushes . Draws/paints completely from memory without any sort of reference?! His imagination must be as vivid as vivid can get! Just an informative documentary of course, not a cinematic masterpiece.

debaserr 09-07-2010 10:04 PM

i'm glad you told us irazetta: painting with fire isn't a cinematic masterpiece.

Visually astonishing with a nice atmosphere. Ok actor performances but with a lack of purpose. To make the villain a through-out evil psychopath without much other personality than simply "being evil" feels very cheap. The protagonist also feels illogical. Not for one second does he hesitate and think "Damn, I'm in a pretty bad situation. What if I never get to see my loved ones again?". It's the same monotonous, emotionless expressions and methodology that are more reminiscient of a machine than a human being.
Nice flick a friday evening but far from the masterpiece it is sometimes portrayed as.

I have to say, I appreciate your nice thorough review of the show, but I definitely disagree with you.

I felt the villian role was well executed. People are 'just evil' sometimes. Would you have been happier if they included the usual sob story of an abused childhood in which made him evil? I think not.

and this

He does this throughout the entire movie. Its pretty much WHAT the movie is about. How quickly you can get into a bad situation. The scene the sticks out in my mind the most is when he goes back to give the Mexican water and he sees the lights come over the hill.

That's an F & not an I as in Frazetta (looks confusing), and are you really glad that I told you this?

Thanks for posting this! I love documentaries on art movements and such and never knew this film existed until now.

I liked Holy Grail more, but Life of Brian did have its great moments (hence the cheese makers comment). It was a bit long though... like 3 hours? I was I imagining things?

Man, Paul Thomas Anderson really can direct. And the writing ain't half bad too, good film. All the ingredients a rom-com has but with a quirky, bizarre edge. If PTA releases a couple more solid films, I may have to consider him as a favourite director. He's yet to have a flop.

I remember watching this awhile back. I enjoyed it, too.

Superior to the one posted above in a way.
Charlie Kaufman's scenarios are masterpieces. Not his best, but still a Kaufman level. Michel Gondry and Kaufman work wonders together, plus Spike Jonze seems to be on the production team, not to forget the great cast. I love Patricia Arquette! ... and Tim Robbins of course.

What a Fuk'd up film! I was expecting something messed up, but never this much lol. Another great watch.

I didn't like Antichrist. It was too gory for me to try to understand any subliminal messages.
