I recently saw Teeth out of morbid curiosity at the midway point I just zoned out while watching it. That movie didn't even need to be made. It could've been done in a 30 min episode of Tales from the Dark Side.

I also saw Street Fighter: The legend of chun li. I didn't understand the plot. It was a bit off. At first she narrates and makes it seems like she is above revenge but then at the end of the movie she goes after her antagonist to get revenge. It doesn't make sense. I liked the club scenes and the fight scene in the bathroom but that was about it. I went into watching it with low expectations and good thing I did. I wasn't disappointed in it because of that.

Bought and watched this today. Enjoyed it for sure and the ending was suitably creepy but I'm not sure whether it warrants another viewing. When I buy a film I like to think that each time I watch it I can get something else out of it and I'm not sure if it impressed me enough to watch again. Well worth a viewing though.

^^Keep meaning to watch it, not interested in the remake. It's been recommended to me but they people always have dubious tastes, lol.

Now you have the hammer seal of approval ;)

Akira 08-22-2009 06:31 PM

Lol, i have it on dvd, but just not bothered with it yet.

Currently watching Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo which I haven't seen in years, especially not since I bought it.

A little disappointed, to be honest. For the majority of the film I was wondering how certain parts of it were going to be at all necessary, by the end I realised that most of it actually was but still I felt it was a bit of an anti climax.

^^ That DVD cover is atrocious.

Because it doesn't exist yet? I'm only seeing 393 pages.

Flipping through my cable channels and this was just starting so decided to give it a view. Stars Tommy Lee Jones and Susan Sarandon. I liked it, the story was good, acting was good, but I thought both could have been alot better. The idea behind it was a little scary to me...of going off to war and coming home all psychologically twisted up. Probably won't watch it again but it was good one time around.

One of my favorite movies of all time. I can't even count the number of times I've seen it now. I <3 Jet Li.

Very good sir.

Saw it in theaters, it was alright. So much for Jet Li going out with a bang.

Miller's Crossing (1990)

My favourite movie, absolutely love it.

"I've never met anyone who made being a son of a bitch such a point of pride."

Thinking of watching Mulholland Drive in a bit.

It's a black comedy. If you're too busy trying to tie together plotlines then you're not going to enjoy it because you have to relax to get the jokes.

I was having this problem the last few days, only the latest page for me (this very page) is 197. No problem at the moment though.

------------------
I've been planning to re-watch Fight Club recently. But I decided I'm going to read the book first, since I'm making an effort to read more and I think it's a book that would work for me. Then I'll re-watch it.

Last night I watched Rosemary's Baby.

I've not even maxed 100 yet. For us it's based on posts per page, for the 394 vs 393 who knows ...

+81 08-23-2009 02:30 PM

You probably have the display length longer per page.

Guybrush 08-23-2009 05:32 PM

Sidewinder, what did you think of it?

I just saw Noroi - The Curse ..

http://chewygurl.files.wordpress.com...o3644f1yl4.jpg

It's about a paranormal researcher who researches strange occurrences which are of course related. A kidnapping, possession, ancient rituals, psychics and people dying in mysterious ways. The researcher has a camera man and they document everything that happens on film. Basically, the whole movie is shot like a documentary style film with interviews, shaky camera movement with bad quality and bits of TV edited in. The movie starts out with a mystery and the viewer comes along for the ride when the investigator tries to unravel it.

Of course, like they did with Blairwitch, the filmmakers here have tried to make a story that seems like it could be true. The people in the film are supposed to feel like real people rather than actors and of coruse the documentary style is supposed to give you a feeling of credibility. It actually works out quite well, very few of the people in the film actually feel like actors. There is one particularly annoying tin foil man that gets a lot of onscreen time which is perhaps the least credible and there are a couple of things people do here that might seem a little weird, but overall they did a very good job of making this seem "real".

The reason I wanted to watch it is I've read quite a lot of praise and I also read that this was going to be really scary. To me it was good, reasonably entertaining and the mystery was interesting. I didn't find the movie very scary - it's not really the kind of horror that scares me the most - so with that bit out of the picture, I thought the movie was a little slow-paced.

I'd say good, but not essential .. Those who enjoy mystery films should watch it. People who thought the Blairwitch Project was spooky might also like this if they like getting scared. The movies are quite different in everything except the way it tells the story (people filming what happens to them), but if that's what made Blairwitch work for you, it probably does the job just as well in this one if not better.

7/10!

I've rented Rosemary's Baby twice and had to return it before I could see it both times. Eventually I'll get to it.

Older Jim Henson movie, very dark for a child's movie.

Never get tired of this movie.

I enjoyed District 9 much, much more than Inglourious Basterds as well. What did you think of Pitt's performance in Basterds?

LoathsomePete 08-23-2009 08:57 PM

I found him to be the comic relief in the movie, but like I said I was already having a ****ty night before and I was tired so I think that probably affected my opinion more than anything else. The French actress was easily the best part in the movie, especially during the end, her laughter was truly haunting.

Well, it could have been your mood I suppose. I myself thought he had the poorest performance of the entire cast. It was almost as if he were over-playing the character, if that makes sense. He turned the part into a caricature of what it should have been, making him funny yes, but not really realistic or easy to relate to. Just my opinion though...

And yes, I completely agree with you that the French actress was quite good, as well as the actor who played Col. Landa.

I went and saw District 9 today.

http://www.impawards.com/2009/posters/district_nine.jpg

I thought it was really, really good. Raised a lot of social issues; was alarming and disturbing but at the same time eerily heartbreaking. I also liked that South Africa was the chosen location for the film rather than somewhere in the US - was something different and also something that for some reason felt a little closer to home.

Ah yes, Ralph Bakshi's last good movie.

Flawed, but highly worth a look.

Ah yes, this is a childhood favorite for me, even when I watched it again like a year ago, it still held up incredibly well.

Hensen really was one creative motherf*cker, but I think people overlook his technical wizzardry as well, I still scratch my head trying to think about how he made a lot of those puppets.

Awesome movie.

I like it too although in my opinion it's entertainment value doesn't come close to that of Labyrinth.

LoathsomePete, you should check that one out as well if you haven't. Aside from the names mentioned in that trailer, Brian Froud was creature designer for both of these movies and Terry Jones collaborated as writer. David Bowie in big hair and tights also works quite well I think.

^ David Bowie scared me to hell as a child watching that film.

The whole movie was very good. The scene at the day care I found wonderfully horrific. I liked the ending.

I guess this is the classic that so many other things are based off. The ending was rediculous. Bom dida bom di bom di bom bom.

Saw The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Goodfellas last night. Both were very good.

The Assassination of Jesse James completely blew my mind though. Great acting there all around, and I can't stand Casey Afleck in any of his other movies. He was just so well used in that part. Pitt was at his best once again.

Pleasantly surprised with this one, I thought it did a pretty good job at blending the styles of Cloverfield, [Rec], and The Blair Witch Project with the fan favorite monster, zombies.

Akira 08-24-2009 08:51 PM

^^Eh, it was ok, but definitely not like a Romero movie. But then again, I didnt have high hopes, I hope Survival...is better.

Guybrush 08-25-2009 05:09 AM

My problem with Romero movies is I just don't think they're very good. With the exception of night and dawn, I find them somewhat lacking in entertainment for me .. often predictable, slow and not scary.

Land of the Dead was a mediocre bore, but I guess I'll give diary a shot.
