Get Him to the Greek (US 2010) is a spinoff from the completely forgettable Forgetting Sarah Marshall. An American record company employee, played by the wearisome Jonah Hill, is sent to the UK to recall rockstar Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) for a comeback show at The Greek Theater. Brand and Sean Coombs give reasonable performances as music industry stereotypes, while a slapstick scene in a hotel suite is moderately amusing. But, the combination of Brand's eccentric ramblings with Hollywood sentiment just does not work. The film is certainly not to my taste and I thought it was awful.

Might have been better without Keira Knightley's character or maybe based solely on her character. I thought it turned out too cluttered.

This is all I took away from that film. I want a good Cronenberg film dammit. His last two were very mediocre.

Or without the gross historical inaccuracies. I don't mind some dramatic elaboration, but geez...

Has Keira Knightley ever done anything worthwhile? Everything about her makes me wanna hurl. She's not even particularly attractive. She looks like what Natalie Portman would look like with Kristen Stewart's expression.

I think she was in Bend it Like Beckham, which is a good low budget film about an Asian girl who is a talented footballer, but her family disapprove. The simplest ideas are the best.

I can't remember, so she must've been adequate.

She was great in Bend it like Beckham. She was also good in Domino, Atonement, and Love Actually. She also starred in the mega hit Pirates of the Carribean movies. I think shes a very attractive girl.

Out of that list, I only approve of her performance in Domino

Yesterday I went with my mom and boyfriend to see Jurassic Park in 3D Imax. Honestly, this was the first time I ever saw the movie, and it was EPIC! I read the book by Michael Crichton a few years ago, and I think the movie captures it pretty well. And the Imax is just awesome.

Domino was great. The rest fall under the chick flick guidelines/dialogue movies. I didn't necessarily find them extremely great but they are well rated movies in particular.

I really enjoyed Bend It Like Beckham, it was a nice little comedy. I thought she was also good in Pride & Prejudice.

They should have gone into more detail about the extraction of the dna from the amber fly, I thought that part was particularly interesting and took up a few chapters of the book. The movie was good though. Much better then Sphere or Congo, two good books ruined by Hollywood.

I may see Atonement one day because I've heard of her performance being pretty spectacular in it but haven't seen it yet and I'm not a big fan of those Pirates movies.

The last movie I saw was Olympus Has Fallen and once you turn your brain off and realize that some of the things that happened the US military/Secret Service wouldn't let happen then you'll enjoy it more.

Has anyone seen the recent Evil Dead?
I need to go back and re-watch the Bruce Campbell one.

I enjoyed it for the most part but the first half of the movie seemed to take itself too seriously and I can't remember if the original one was just unintentionally funny or was it campy on purpose.

I'm guessing you must be younger than me. I was like five or six when that movie came out and I'm pretty sure everyone on Earth saw it, and if you were a kid that movie ruled your ****ing life. I have no idea how many times I saw that movie in the theater. The next time I would have a movie experience that mind blowing was when Star Wars Special Edition was in theaters.

The Chernobyl Diaries

Pile of sh*t. Seriously, it was that bad. These Americans need to take a note from Australians on how to do a good found footage/fake documentary film such as The Tunnel or Lake Mungo because I'm getting real tired of **** movies like this that take every single easy path to make a scare. Even Grave Encounters was better than this because at least there was a bit of acting in that. Rubbish.

Happy - Go - Lucky

You're only going to enjoy this if you like films that focus on characters and nothing else. I enjoyed this for the performances; Sally Hawkins and Eddie Marsan were incredible. A lot of people are going to find Hawkins' character annoying but I found her endearing and a purely happy person. Definitely worth the watch.

Humpday

Well that was weird. Not really much to say about this one because it's a great ride to go on but a very weird film. Again this one focuses on character and not really much else. If you like Mark Duplass and his films then you'll like this one despite the incredibly awkward premise.

The Apartment

I'm starting to attack classic films that I haven't seen yet and this marks my first Billy Wilder film and what a great start. I loved it. Jack Lemmon is just so damn fantastic in everything and Shirley MaClaine was lovely. The film also deals with some pretty heavy events and besides the strange happy ending was a perfect blend of comedy and drama.

The Bay

This one was entertaining. It's far from great but certainly not bad at all. It's shot like a fake documentary with hand held footage being shown but it had some very unique and haunting scenes of horror that stuck with me for a while. The acting was so so and the story had a nice biological and real twist at the end. I'd say it's definitely worth the watch.

I'll be 23 in a month. I was too young to see the movie in the theatre but my parents went to see it. We owned the ****ing videotape of it and I never watched it. Can't believe I waited this long to see it.

Fred, yeah they definitely could have gone into more detail about the process. Crichton dedicated a good chunk of the book to it but so much got cut out of the film.

i agree...that part of the book was fascinating...but at the same time i kind of understand that they had to get the movie moving as quickly as possible

i went and saw it yesterday and i loved it.....there are tons of little tiny shout outs to the original and if you plan on seeing it there is a great little thing at the end of the credits that is specifically for fans of the original films

from what i understand the original film was meant to be a serious horror film but turned into a campy cult classic

on the remake.....this film is old school gory...with very little cg effects and...well lets just say however supplied the blood will be able to send at least three kids to an ivy league school after this film :)

if you really like just rampant gore and a few good loud jumping parts this film is for you....over the top to the point of being laughable but in a good way

I love love love Happy Go Lucky. Every time I see it on one of the movie channels while I'm surfing I will stop and watch the rest of it. She reminds me of a friend of mines that is so perky and optimistic that it can get on your nerves at times but I still care about her all the same.

I saw it before I posted about it on here just wanted to get the opinions of others that may have seen it. I was so pissed when I got home and did some digging around and found out that I missed the after credits scene.

I really liked it. The tone of the film near the beginning seemed to do just that take itself a bit seriously then the funny stuff started popping up here and there.

I loved the audience reactions to some of the gory stuff. A few people walked out pissed saying it sucked but I didn't agree with them. Yeah, one of the bonus points was the practical effects that were used.

As much as I'd like to agree with you, it's a movie about watching dinosaurs eat people. The sciency bits are just the window dressing to get you to the dinosaurs eating people. Anything that takes away from the dinosaurs eating people should be edited with extreme prejudice.

Pretty much the dumbest movie that i've seen, I just wish it had SOME sort of plot so I could have gotten through it.

The theme song is the best however.

Silver Linings Playbook

So I finally sat down to watch this after always finding a reason not to go to the theater to see it. I don't think I missed anything of a theater experience but I regret waiting so long to see it because I found it pretty great. I connected to the first half of the film...especially Cooper who was very impressive in this role. I'm growing into a fan of him considering the 2nd film I saw with him today; more on that later though. I got a bit emotional during his first days out of the mental hospital due to my brother going through the exact same thing. Seriously. He named the same medicine my brother is taking. It was weird. The second half turned its romantic side toward me but it struck the exact right chords as far as romantic movies go. Jennifer Lawrence earned the sh*t out of her Oscar. She was fantastic. I also enjoyed Bob DeNiro and Jackie Weaver but I didn't quite understand their nominations. They were good but Bob played a version of himself that he always plays and Weaver just kind of went along with everybody else. Just a thought.

Overall a great film that I'd like to own. It had the right amount of romance, comedy, and sadness that I loved in Lost in Translation and loved in this.

The Place Beyond the Pines

I sporadically decided to go see this film by myself today. Great decision. This was fantastic and easily the best film in theaters right now. I don't know if anybody saw Blue Valentine but it's made by the same director. I didn't really know anything going into this other than the director and the fact that it's got an 80 on RT. This is essential.

If you're planning on seeing this film , go into it knowing nothing. It's not like there are huge twists but the way the story unfolds hits you way harder when you are blind to it. Just trust me on this.

The film was beautifully shot on location in New York State. It was a powerful, haunting, and draining film that I'm going to be thinking about for some time. Cooper and Gosling were great but the real star was the direction and screenplay that made for a suspenseful gut puncher of a film. The only thing that I could call a negative is it's a bit patchy in a few spots which lead to it being a long film but it's in no way a serious problem.

Superb film

I finally re-watched one of my favorite gangster films: American Me

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._me_poster.jpg

I only saw it once, 15 or 20 years ago, so I had no recollection of this song that plays in the end credits. Very nice sampling of a Bill Withers classic

CrazyVegn 04-20-2013 11:38 AM

Oz and I didn't like their dress/apparel as it was v eclectic and not time-related. It would've been best if they'd dressed them in the same clothing style as the time The Wizard of Oz was written by Frank L.Baum or whatever time he intended it all to be.
I'm also tired of Michelle Williams' monotone facial expression in every roll.

*Role I meant, lol

I liked this a lot too. Without spoiling anything for anyone, But I felt like the movie really fell apart in the 3rd act. Neither of the main characters in the 3rd act were very fleshed out or realistic to their upbringings. And, I felt the final frame was just too cheesy and the resolution of the film was too clean cut for all the parties involved.

3rd act was definitely the weakest but Dane Dehaan is such a great young actor that it didn't negate my rating or extreme liking of the film. I took it all in as a whole and applauded it for it's originality and execution. I also failed to mention in my review that Mike Patton does the score and it was pretty f*cking awesome. It really made those moments hit home.

The Intouchables

I don't think this deserves it number 63 spot on IMBD's top 250 but I find more faults in that list every time I look at it so who really cares. I loved the film. It is seriously one of the BEST feel good movies of the last decade and while there were of course some sad moments, it never strayed too far from being such a pleasant and surprisingly very funny movie. Omar Sy has ridiculous charm and I can see why he was cast instead of finding a spanish actor to portray the actual caretaker. Ludovico Einaudi does the music for the film. It's mostly old tracks but it added to the beauty of the film very well. Definitely worth a watch.

I'm really amazed at how many people loved this. I thought it was your generic indie-type rom com, resplendent with cliche. There were great acting performances, to be sure, but there was disappointment there, as well.

DeNiro's role was not fully fleshed out, there was the generic token black guy for comic relief and to teach the white people how to dance, which seemed trite and kind of irritating.

Lawrence and Cooper were amazing, but the script left something to be desired, and, again, DeNiro's character was scarcely used.

I saw the movie as: I'm crazy, and hence, probably unlovable, but I'm going to try to love as a normal person. Yeah? I'm also crazy. I like to have sex. A lot. Let's dance. I won't have sex with you, because I'm playing it cool. Your dad, eh? Ah, he's the C-storyline. He gets overlooked even by the guy who tried to escape the psych ward with you at the beginning of the movie.

And then the cliche love-y dove-y scene at the end...Jesus God. I really wish that something more inventive have been done. I understand it was based on a book, which I haven't read, so if it was quite true to the book, then shame on the author. If not, then SHAME upon SHAME on David O. Russell.

Mike Patton's soundtrack was the best one I've heard since Cliff Martinez's Drive soundtrack, I absolutely agree. But, Cliff Martinez is doing the Only God Forgives soundtrack, so we'll see how that plays out in a few months.

Did it deserve the high praise it got? Probably not. It didn't do anything unique or daring. The performances made the film really. If they weren't in there the film might have looked like something Nicolas Sparks would have adapted. However I think the thing for me is that I'm not a very big rom/com guy so the cliches that people talk about aren't experienced by me very often. I'm sure there are other rom/coms out there that do the genre better but for me this just hit a chord the way Lost in Translation did. I'm not saying they're equal. LIT had amazingly beautiful cinematography and Bill ****ing Murray but both their characters hit me on a personal level. I saw myself in both Bob and Charlotte and their love was a subtle one which I loved. SLP did somewhat of the same thing where I found qualities in them that I found elsewhere. This time it was qualities I found in others I care about.

So yeah it was kind of a personal love of this movie. Can't say I disagree with your assessment but for me it was just different. That and come on...Jennifer Lawrence...come on...

I saw Oblivion today. I was really in the mood for a sci-fi flick. Once I stopped immaturely giggling over the shape of the ship and the video playback issues they seem to be having with all the advance technology they have then I was able to enjoy it more. I love how beautifully it was shot. There were some nice panoramic scenes. Plot-wise, I enjoyed the pacing even though the first two minutes to 40 minutes or so could have been reduced somewhat.
