I don't think a film needs universial appeal to be a great film, it's all subjective of course. And some filmmakers only want their work to appeal to certain people, there's nothing wrong with that. If I was a filmmaker I wouldn't want my work to be endlessly praised by the same pretentious critics that I can't stand, or be so overexposed that everyone grows to hate it.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but I really did love School of Rock. Did anyone happen to see in the DVD extras, Jack Black's video plea to Led Zepplin to use their song in the movie? It made me laugh anyway...

Prom Night, worst movie ever.
I normally can't watch scary movies because I'm a big chicken, but this wasn't good at all.
Everything was so expected, and imo they didn't do a good job with casting.
Oh, and I agree.
Twilight is another one of the worst movies ever. The books completely sucked, and the movie was ten times worse.

Are you talking about the original or the remake? And since both are largely forgotten about and/or regarded as crap can they really be said to be overrated?

I saw the one with Brittany Snow. I haven't seen the original, but I'm not sure I want to because of the remake.
People where I live are obsessed about this movie, and it drives me insane.

Weird. I forgot there even was a remake. When I read your post my first thought was "that's kind of random old movie to think is overrated", it took looking it up on IMDb for me to recall that they there was a newer version of it.

Anyway it gets a 3.6 out of 10 on IMDb so it's not particularly overrated over there at least.

Can I say, even though I dig the movie, that Nightmare Before Christmas is overrated?

Because it is.

I totally agree. I actually think it's one of Tim Burton's worst movies.

Thank God I wasn't pelted with hatefire.

But I agree with your ranking of it.
It was great for what it did, and what it did was great...for about two to three viewings. After that, I can't see why people get such a hard on for it.

I only saw it once, in the theater when it first came out, and was kind of underwhelmed. Visually it's pretty cool and it has a decent premise but something about it just didn't grab me. And as much as I normally like Danny Elfman I thought the songs in it were terribly boring.
