Madonna was no trail blazer when she started out rather she was a white female doing disco songs ( Hello Debbie Harry ! ). She was also an attractive white women doing club based pop music that the likes of Donna Summers or Chaka Kan had been doing for years, of course Donna Summers and Chaka Kan were better singers than Madonna but because Madonna had fair skin and the music video age was dawning, she was prime time MTV fodder.

In short she was photogenic and her voice was only a secondary concern, because when you are singing about being" like a virgin" or "living in a material world" and you're dressed up like Marrillon Monroe, you're voice is going to be the last thing people will be thinking about.

She did everything to exploit her image, from bearing her breasts wearing a black corset, Siouxe from Siouxe and the Banshees had done the same thing back in the late seventies, to going into the movie industry. But at the end of the day she was just a singer with an ok voice.

That is the one distinct difference between Lady Gaga and Madonna, Lady Gaga can actually sing really well, Madonna's voice is just ok. Other things I like about Lady Gaga are that her videos are avant guard master pieces, her costumes outrageous and her behaviour is truly eccentric at times.

The music Madonna is making these days is actually questionable at best and its safe to say her best years are behind her. She could age gracefully and create music that reflects her age, but instead she teams up with artists like Justin Timberlake, MIA, Adele and even Miley Cyrus. It is just sad and a reflection on how separate she has become to remain relevant, that she is courting artists half her age to try and retain, or should I say regain her street creed.

I can't imagine Lady Gaga doing the same when she is in her fifties also she did not get to where she is without talent and compared with some of her contemporaries like Justine Bebo and Mile High Cyrus, Lady Gaga actually has fans who are older than 13.
Your spelling though.

I never said I was a great speller, but I will start checking my dictionary from now on if I am unsure of something.

Anyway I still stand by my original reply and I would like to elaborate by saying that it seems like almost everyone is saying Madonna.
Everyone is so quick to right off Lady Gaga, by claiming she is copying Madonna, I actually believe she sounds more like Christine Aguilera, but thats just my opinion.

This debate is all a bit sexist if you ask me, it seems like the jury would be all too quick to pass judgment on any successful female pop artist as sounding or acting like Madonna. Substitute Lady Gaga for Britney Spears, Christine Aguilera, Kylie Minogue or Pink and you could argue that any of them "might" sound or act like Madonna in some way but that does not meant they do. These Madonna comparisons all a bit tiresome, especially in this day and age when the plethora of female performers is so much bigger than when Madonna started singing.

Because Lady Gaga puts her self out there, she is a convenient target. What people fail to take into consideration is that Lady Gaga is still relatively young, so based on that notion she should have many more years to perfect her craft.

Madonna on the other hand has not made a memorable album since "Ray of Light" or "Music", its actually been that long. Throughout the eighties and nineties Madonna made a very successful career out of her music, but this may came as a shock to you, she was not the first to do so, Debbie Harry was mixing funk and disco into her songs years before Madonna.

I find it hard to believe that Madonna would not have been influenced by Blondie when she was starting out, but no one is passing judgment on her for that. Perhaps if those voting were to cast their judgement on each performers current output rather than their entire output than perhaps they might think differently.

After all I don't recall Lady Gaga teaming up with M.I.A and Nikki Minaj to try and regain some street cred. And you know why ? Gaga does not need to collaborate with artists half her age to help make her albums.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Madonna was one of the first hugely successful female pop stars. All of the sexual norms that she challenged with her music and image has left an impact that no other artist has done since. She was in the right place at the right time, and it's the reason every new pop star gets compared to her.

Madonna recently did a photoshoot with Katy Perry, leading to speculation that Katy will appear on Madonna's new single....

Madonna Photographer Claims To Be 'Listening To The New Album'

By Jason Lipshutz, N.Y. | April 21, 2014 4:08 PM EDT

Mert Alas, one half of the fashion photography pair Mert + Marcus and a frequent Madonna collaborator, caused quite the online kerfuffle by posting a photo of Madge on Instagram on Monday (Apr. 21) with a caption in which he claimed to be "listening to the new album."

"In my room listening to the NEW ALBUM!!!!!" Alas posted. "Im DYING!!!!!! LET ME LOVE YOU FROM INSIDE OUT… @madonna."

Could the follow-up to 2012's "MDNA" be upon us? A rep for Madonna has declined a request for comment, but sources tell Billboard that the pop superstar's next full-length is not yet completed, and that she is still writing and recording new music for the set, presumably in Los Angeles.

Last month, Madonna told her Instagram followers that she was "on my way to the studio to work with Avicii," and hit the studio earlier this month to work withNatalia Kills and Martin Kierszenbaum. Toby Gad, S1 and MoZella are also attached to the new project.

"MDNA" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart upon its March 2012 release. Mert + Marcus directed the music video for the album's second single, "Girl Gone Wild," and shot the MDNA tour book for Madge.

MoZella, Toby Gad & Symbolyc One---bringing R&B sounds to Madonna's new album?

*A former Maverick artist, MoZella is a soul/pop singer and multi-instrumentalist in her own right. She has recently also co-written 3 songs for Miley Cyrus, including "Wrecking Ball", and Fergie's "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody".
*Toby Gad is a songwriter and producer, who has done songs such as Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry", Beyoncé's "If I Were a Boy", John Legends "All of Me" and JLS' "Love You More".
*Symbolyc One is a hip hop producer, a part of group Strange Fruit Project and a member of Erykah Badu's band. His production credits include Kanye
West's "Power", 50 Cent's "My Life" and Beyonce's "Best Thing I Never Had"

Madonna working with a Badu and Strange Fruit producer???? Should be interesting....

CLEARLY Lady Gaga tore a few pages out of Madonna's playbook, for all intents and purposes. However, young music fans SHOULD have their own "heroes", so to speak. There's nothing new under the sun in popular music. Be that as it may, if nothing else, Gaga has the right idea.

This is very true. However, pop artists can still be creative and experimental.

Gaga's problem is she "tries to hard" when she does not have to. She has a legitimate amount of talent where she does not have to sell a "gimmick". She chooses to do that in order to sell alot of records/arenas. The problem is, there are artists that have "been there, done that". I don't mind her drawing inspiration from Madonna, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury etc However, it would be nice if she tried to carve her own lane and not sound so pretentious everytime she comes out with an album, its a turn off because she is not doing anything "innovative"

Madonna may be overrated as far as talent but only a fool would deny her massive impact on popular culture. She is the blue print for alot of what these pop female artists do today. Nobody will never surpass her in my honest opinion as far as "success/influence"
