Out of the list I would say Jimmy page. Everyone should hear a little Robert Johnson at least once in their lives. He is said to have sold his soul to the devil, which is why he could play the guitar so well. |
My favourite guitarist would be someone like Greg Ginn from Black Flag or Tom Verlaine from Television but since we're talking the best technical guitarists I would be temped to say Wes Montgomery, not the most amazing some might say but in my opinion he is amazing.

I don't know, they haven't toured Canuckistan yet |
Check out this video and tell me what you think:

I'll click it when I get home, I'm at work and it wont go through the URL filter.
Lousy......filter |
Alright. Some of the vocal harmonies are obviously pre-recorded, so I'm thinking maybe they pre-recorded the whole thing haha.
|
You listed Ritchie Blackmore twice.
I love Joe Satriani. |
I voted for "Tombstone Tony"
|
ok...fixed the poll.
im torn between malmsteen and vai. both are amazing guitarists. i think im going with malmsteen. |
HAHA!, Kurt Cobain was in the list...

I`m no Nirvana fan but i`d rather listen to them than 75% of the wank on this list. |
i have no idea who about 50% of them are..
^(that may be an overstatement) |
I don`t either
I`m guessing most of the ones i`ve not heard of are from crap european power metal bands. |
that or prog bands.
|
See thats what I hate about these list that are always on this forum. It`s all metal & hard rock , yet it`s in a rock music forum , where are other forms of rock?
Where are people like Johnny Marr , Robert Smith , Graham Coxon , John Squire , Frank Black , Kevin Shields , Johnny Greenwood, Jack White , Will Sargent. Most of them are more inventive than most of the people on that list |

If you do'nt like the lists that are always on this forum you've got two options. 1.Ignore them or 2 Make one of your own instead of whining like a silly bitch. FFS get over it already |

And yeah for those who say I missed some, that's because I was only allowed to do 50 max. Does anyone want me to copy and paste the real list I had and put next to them the bands? |

B.B King? Zappa (most)? They aren't hard rock or metal, to name three. And most of the guitarists you named just missed out on a spot because I ran out of time. So I wasn't favouring any style of music, in fact, I can't stand most of those guitarists. |

Why isn't Jonny Greenwood on that list?
|
oooh people are so touchy these days
|
If we're going with technical ability alone, why hasn't anybody voted for Michael Angelo yet? He's the fastest, period.
If it's best overall, I'd go with Vai, but this is technical, so Michael Angelo Batio is my pick. Go to his site, Angelo.com, and watch his videos and sound clips. He's insane. |

Kurt Kobain? ...
I went with David Gilmour, out of that list. His guitar sounds really silvery and fluid. I'm sure he isn't anywhere near the best technically speaking. |
Oh yeah...
I took the liberty to add in the various bands and the less popular one's style(s). If there's no band listed it means they have a solo career, even though I know some some of them have also been in bands, but they probably have more solo albums. And vice-versa.
I'm not gonna stop this list until everyone on this entire board is happy! So tell me to make additions if you want and I'll add them if I've heard of 'em – or correct my mistakes. You now officially have the right to be pissed at me for forgetting your favourite guitarist(s). If you think you've seen a more comprehensive list – you're wrong. Adrian Belew (King Crimson, Frank Zappa, The Bears, etc) Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) Alan Morse (Spock's Beard) Alex Lifeson (Rush) Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom – just about every metal there is) Allan Holdsworth (UK, Tempest, etc) Allen Collins (Lynnard Skynnard) Andy Latimer (Camel) Angus Young (AC/DC) Anthony Iommi (Black Sabbath) Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon - Heavy metal/prog metal/neo-Prog) B.B King Bob Dylan Brendt Allman (Shadow gallery – Prog rock/prog metal) Brian May (Queen) Brian Setzer (Stray Cats, The Bloodless Pharoahs) Buckethead Carlos Santana (Santana) Chirs Amott (Arch Enemy – Death metal/heavy meal/thrash) Chris Cheney (The Living End – Australian punk revival band) Chris DeGarmo (Queensrÿche) Chris Rea Chuck Berry David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) Dave Mustaine (Megadeth, Metallica) Derek Trucks (The Derek Trucks Band, etc - Slide Guitarist) Dimebag Darrel (Pantera) Django Reinhardt (Jazz/Swing) Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen) Eric Clapton (Cream, The Yardbirds, etc) Eric Johnson Frank Black (Pixies (as Black Francis)) Frank Zappa Gary Green (Gentle Giant) Graham Coxon (Blur) Jack White (The White Stripes) Jason Becker Jari Mäenpäa (Wintersun – Deathmetal/prog metal; man this guy owns everyone) Jeff Beck (The Yardbirds, Upp, etc) Jeff Loomis (Nevermore - Heavy Metal/PowerMetal/ProgressiveMetal/Alternative Metal) Jesper Strömblad (In Flames – Death metal/heavy meal/progressive metal/Scandinavian metal) Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) Jimi Hendrix Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) Joe Satriani John Squire (The Stone Roses, The Shining, etc) Joe Walsh (The Eagles) John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers) John McLaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra, etc) John Petrucci (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment) Johnny Marr (The Smiths, Johnny Marr & the Healers, Electronic) Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead) Henrik Danhage (Evergrey – prog metal/heavy metal/power metal) Herman Li (Dragonforce – Power metal/heavy metal/neo-classical metal) K.K. Jimi Hendrix not because I think he is best Guitarist there, I just think his style defined rock history. Jimmy Page would probably be the best for me.
|
Someone forgot to mention Chris Rea. He's a great electric guitarist.

Psh, some guitarist poll, you don't have Brian Setzer or Robert Johnson. But if they were up there I would vote for one...then make another account just to vote for the other one.
