70s . with bands like zeppelin, floyd, the who for the first half of the decade, the eagles, skynyrd, allman brothers.
no other decade comes close except for maybe the 60s.
the music of today is nothing compared with 60s and 70s music

And for the 2000's we have Aesop Rock, Patrick Wolf, Radiohead, and Porcupine Tree.
Edit: My point being name-dropping 6 bands doesn't prove a point.

80's the basic for modern music? You can say that about any decade up to the 90's.

its a fine line between 60's 70's and 80' but ill have to say the 60's because with black sabbath coming in the late 60's i really began to get into them a lot when i wanted to look back on some of the old rock. and it also led me to ozzy osbourne which i love even more. a band leading to another band is a good thing for me.

sad how ozzy was replaced with Ronnie James Dio. and with the new stuff Ozzy has put out, he's starting to lose a rock edge a little bit. =(

It depends... If you love rock music 70s is the best decade... If you are a metalhead 80s and 90s...

thats not always the case. you could be a metalhead and love the metal music from the 70's and you could also have loved the rock music from the 80's and 90's. you've got it all wrong, because you're saying that if you're a metalhead the 80's and 90's music is your favorite. thats not really the case. some great metal came from the late 60's and early 70's. black sabbath for instance (i've explained myself on that)

Not to burst your bubble, but Black Sabbath never made anything in the 60's.
