As for Death Metal or Black Metal. Yeah, lyrics can be liek that, but it is all just part of the act. I do not think it is serious. That is the difference to me. Nu-Metal took itself totally serious. Death Metal and Black Metal... no so much.
I'd say, generally speaking, death metal and especially black metal bands take themselves just as, if not more seriously, than nu-metal artists. No huge nu-metal bands ever went out and murdered people, burned churches, or constantly sang about "evil" subject matter like Satan and various forms of disembowelment.

If the lyrical content of death and black metal is not meant to be taken seriously, then the aggro, whiny lyrics of nu-metal shouldn't be taken seriously either.

Note: I'm not a fan of nu-metal, just playing devil's advocate like a trve kvltist \m/

I don't take the lyrics to any of those seriously. It's the music that I'm not a fan of with nu-metal (and black metal to a certain extent). Death metal is the only one of the three where I can actually say there are a bunch of bands I actually like a lot.

yeah, but not like the church arson thing defines the entire style. Seperate the men from the myths and it is not something that is hand in hand. 99% of the style it is just an act they put on, while 1% actually do it.

The difference is, and what i mean with nu-metal taking itself seriously, nu-metal is more based on real life. Death Metal and Black Metal is mostly based in fictional life. Lyrically speaking, nu-metal is basically just grunge.. not that different. It is based more on personal lyrics, much like emo even.

Death Metal and Black metal to me is just theatrical, like I said maybe 1% actually believe the stuff they sing about.. but it boils down to the music itself and interesting ideas, nu-metal had no interesting ideas, and unlike all other styles of metal was not as diversified.

I think nu metal is very diverse. That's why bands seem to get thrown in to the nu metal bin when people don't know enough about them, much like metalcore.

Also, you must not like non-fiction

I do not know. I remember when I did listen to nu-metal, and i found I could make a CD and it sounded pretty much all the same. Each band may have minor differences, but not enough to say each one had something different to offer from one to the next. All just blended together to much for me.

LD 50 I do not mind, dispite it's piss poor songwriting, had some alright musical moments I guess. Some good guitar work on that album.

^^if you're arguing solely about technicality, aren't you going to champion something like Dragonforce?
