The Batlord = named after this band of course. Old joke in metal circles, because of the font of the logo, looks like it says Batlord.

But yeah, I do like their first album. I do not know if I like it as much as some from the other bands in the first wave black metal scene - Venom and Celtic Frost usually do more for me.

But I like this album none the less, as well as "Under the Sign of the Black Mark" and "Blood Fire Death". Those last 2 being better than their first.

I hear these guys are hipsters. Whatever. If I've got to go to hipsters to hear such awesome retro/stoner doom, then so be it.

This song, "Black Magic Mushrooms", is amazing. The keyboard element works well, probably because it's done in such a playful manner. The drum machine doesn't bother me at all, either.... it works with the sound.
