I just bought Motörhead and Ensiferum's self-titled debut albums, and my finger started bleeding when I put them into my CD-shelf. Am I starting to become metal?

Dude I ****ing found Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime and Bolt Thrower's Realm of Chaos at a thrift store the other day. How the hell do you find death metal at a Goodwill? ****ing score!

Here recently I got these:

Bathory - Bathory
Overkill - Feel the Fire - F-you & Then Some
Sepultura - Arise - Beneath the Remains
Slayer - Show no Mercy - Hell Awaits

I'm not certain about Bathory. I will buy some of the next discs because I am not a quitter! I've listened to the whole album a few times now. Tried to read the lyric sheet, too, but I gave up quickly.

Not a big fan of Slayer, but I do love metal, so I really wanted to expand into their back catalog. They sound a bit more like black metal in these two first albums than thrash to me. But then again I've mistaken them for death metal due to their deathish lyrics and such. Death metal should have been named gore metal, if you ask me.

Overkill sound a lot like Manowar or Iced Earth. Or Iron Maiden. I'm not over all liking the album that much, but I will get more from them, as I said about Bathory, I will not quit just because I dislike one album.

I was reluctant to get Sepultura for the longest time because I am not a big fan of that death metal sound when it comes to singing/growling, whatever it's called. Their singer sounds more death metally than thrash, but I am getting into it more and more. I have put up the idea that every thrash metal band should sound like Metallica, and no band sounds like Metallica. But I love a singer that uses more of a lower sounding vocal instead of the falsetto, and so Sepultura, being the epitome of that, should be the end all be all because their singer has that growl and lower voice than say Overkill do. I love Blue Oyster Cult and Deep Purple because they are more subdued in their approach. Though Ian Gillian does have that falsetto at times, there are some Purple songs, Black Knight, that are just so low in timber, and I love that.

Well, enough of my understanding/misunderstanding of all things metal. I will get on to something else now. Thanks for putting up with me.

I was shocked when I found this at the used video games store on campus for $15.

Candlemass -"Essential Doom"
This is basically the ultimate compilation pack for a Candlemass fan. It contains not only a CD with many of their best songs from their first 4 albums, but also an exclusive Live DVD (featuring a few of my favorite live performances ever) PLUS a double-sided wall poster. SCORE!!!

I just picked up these because they were released only yesterday.
Epica - Retrospect 10th Anniversary Live Limited Edition with the 2 dvd's and Leaves' Eyes - Symphonies Of The Night. The Epica concert is fantastic and Floor makes her appearance for two songs with Simone.

I bought that same album years ago. It was still hard to find underground underground metal back then so this was the only Candlemass album I could find. And of course now I can go to FYE and pick up their last few albums, and I seem to remember seeing Nightfall there the other day too. I always thought that thing had too few tracks. Still it was an awesome introduction to them.

I bought a ticket to see Carcass, Gorguts and The Black Dahlia Murder together in March !!!! So pumped. I loved Carcass and Gorguts' new albums so that will be fun to hear live, but I hope they play some of their old stuff too.

I hate you. I really, really hate you. I had the chance to go to Maryland Deathfest and see Carcass, but I was broke. So I wish only misfortune upon you, you lucky bastard.
