Why do we need Carrick for? we're already taking a player who only passes backwards & sideways in Stewart Downing.

If that's a requirement for being in the England squad we may as well call up Johnny Wilkinson.

I'd rather give the place to Joe Cole, he might have been hopelessly out of form at Liverpool but he's had a pretty good season at Lille and he's about the only England player capable of doing anything creative.

Admittedly, Downing's had a poor season but he's still capable of producing more than his fair share of crosses into the box. Just don't rely on him for goals!

You don't actually think this is what Carrick does, do you? He is BY FAR the best English Central Midfielder at the moment. Nobody comes close, apart from maybe Barry and Lampard.

Here Here. Carrick plays a similar role to what Scholes has done for years, admit tingly Carrick ain't on Paul's level. But he's still a much better player than people give him credit for.

Well Carrick won't be playing and its only one day to go to the finals and four days till England's big match on Monday against those froggies, personally I think we will lose. France have better players in almost every postion and on the bench as well.

Yeah, France will most likely put the beating on France, but I think they'll take the group with maximum points.
England have just got to hope they can beat Sweden, which I'm not sure will happen either.

Meh, I think Ukraine will get beat by everyone else in the group. I don't see them factoring into it too much even if they are joint hosts.
Never really saw much in them, might come to goal difference between the Swedes and English.
