Korn, Slipknot, U2, NIN and Nickelback.

Also, I could do with hearing far less of/about Avril Lavigne. Her lyrics are garbage and her voice is irritating. (she's not a band, but still..)

Nine Inch Nails had 1 or 2 really good songs and the rest are meh - again, just my opinion on things.

I disagree about NIN - the whole double of the Fragile was absolutely sublime in my opinion... and they had a couple of bigger singles in the mid to late nineties, but there really wasn't anything me than a core of serious fans extolling the virtues of NIN upon the public, which, for my mind alone, doesn't add up to a mass hysteria about a band that isn't that good...

Nine Inch Nails are pretty good, but yeah, quite overrated. I really like "1,000,000" from The Slip.

I'm gonna have to say Tool and Muse, the two worst bands ever to be labelled incorrectly as prog, Seriously pretending to experiment but then not doing anything new is NOT prog.

I have to agree with you there - Tool have some pretty interesting time signitures though, and I like their music, but it doesn't sound like prog to me either.... just a good hard rock band with interesting song structures...

Muse just piss me off. The lead singers vocal style is one of the main culprits.... that deep drawn in breath before he sings separate lines of lyrics is such an annoying vocal tic, it distracts me from anything potentially good going on in their music...

Just because some people can't label genres correctly (I'm actually guilty myself a few times) doesn't detract from the band (who have never claimed to be doing things other people haven't). Though you hate them anyway, so just take my point in stride

Tool's ok, overrated as far as I can tell.

I'm going to agree on the Muse part... I really don't run into a lot of people hyping up Tool so I don't know if I can call them overrated. Muse though: All I hear is how great a guitarist Bellamy is, but I have yet to hear a song with a remotely interesting riff or anything.

I think it's about time I nominated Big Black here.

They seem to gain a hell of a lot of attention for a band that churn out grating mediocre post punk , And i'd guess 90% of that attention is down to Albini alone.

And considering they are Albini's band their albums are horribly produced.

I don't think they're awful by any means , I just find they very rarely rise above mediocre enough to warrant their praise & attention.

There are/were much better bands out there doing this sort of stuff.
