No but I know a few people affected by the evacuation that got eased. I think it's out now, I'm not seeing any updates.

The best and really only things you can do is not breed and be poor. A large carbon footprint is expensive so poverty exonerates you.

You should believe what is true. You don’t shape your beliefs around political objectives.

If science is so fantastic stop the desertification of the Sahel. Stop the drastic increase in hurricanes, floods, wildfires, winter bomb cyclones, and rising sea levels. Science can’t solve this **** and guess what science CAUSED this ****. Science has given us pollution, dead coral reefs, carbon emissions, nuclear disasters, rain forest depletion, and mass extinctions. Every bull**** solution science offers comes with three new problems.

Puerto Rico hasn’t even rebuilt from last season and it’s already a new hurricane season. Florida is going underwater. Miami is spending billions to pump water out and the battle in unwinnable. All of our grandiose science cannot defeat the persistence of rising water levels. Water never gives up. Where I live there’s no more space for retention ponds. When the storms hit it might as well be 1800.

If science offers an agricultural “solution” we breed up to maximum capacity and beyond. We feed East Africa and they breed up again to unsustainable numbers. The wildlife in California can’t roam because of our highway systems. The artic is melting and Russia has a fleet of icebreaker ships to pull all the oil out.

And it’s time to be honest about fossil fuels. There’s hundreds of millions of years of stored solar energy in fossil fuel. You’re ****ing bull**** fantasies that science is going to replace that is so incredibly delusional it’s ****ing stunning. You see that J- Curve exponential population growth chart. A million years to reach a billion. Now it’s another billion every ten years or so. What a coinkydink this happened right when learned how to exploit fossil fuel. When we run out it’s going to be like the 30 year old NFL player who goes from making 16 million to 16 thousand. He thinks he’s going to continue on like nothing changed because he invested in a ****ing car wash that’s what your alternative energy sources have to offer.

Don’t worry we got science and technology lol or maybe Jesus I mean something

We couldn’t really be ****ed could we?
I agree with this so much.

I've got this friend who's really a smart guy, but holy **** we disagree on some things. We once had a conversation about oil running out and alternative energy. He shrugged off any potential upcoming problems with the platitude that of course scientific advances will just magically dump into our lap right on schedule and save us (paraphrasing here). I can barely contain my impulse to choke people with this attitude. Sure, let's set fire to the whole building. I'm sure Batman will come, so no need to stop smoking in bed.

You really can't predict the future and science can do what was thought to be impossible. The real problem is fixing it before it's too late. Now, I'm not going to pretend like I know **** all about if we can or can't undo the damage we are doing, but I do know that such a suffocating amount of pessimism is just as delusional as the overly optimistic faith in science.

OH, nobody knows the future and nobody ever will. That's why its important to balance your pessimistic outlook with what's actually going on in technology and related fields. Hundreds of millions more will likely die from various fallout of some of our current environmental woes before enough new paradigms are in place, but that doesn't mean they won't come to be. Science isn't a religion to worship, but its honestly the only redeemable thing about human beings in regards to our potential as a species. Should we put science and tech on its own curve and look at how we are making jumps in two years that would have taken ten years previously? Look at information technology and how far its come in only two decades. Its ****ing mindboggling.

Secondly....https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/01/c...le-energy.html

You could do a whole 'nother set of breakdowns just based on the falling costs of renewables.

Thanks Shazam

Nods to LF: I don’t really believe you think my pessimism is delusional. Deep down you feel it, too.

That’s sufficiently pessimistic actually

I call it "practical". You seem to think humanity is just ****ed, no exceptions. I think humanity will inevitably reach the next level but a lot of people will die during the transition. For example, even though it appears that most of what Ray Kurzweil talks about in regards to solar energy and tech are awesome and will happen unless a meteor wipes us out tomorrow, at best we're still over a decade away from the free market reflecting that reality. Are the signs there? Yeah. Am I going to personally benefit before I'm 40? That's a trickier bet.

I don't think we're ****ed because we can't scientifically find a solution to our problems. I think we're more so ****ed because scientists have to fight for the opportunity to solve these problems against people that deny that they even exist.

Edit: And even then, I'm not that certain we are ****ed. Eventually, I'm sure we'll cease to exist.

Atheism is one thing, the rejection of the god claim. Anything else is on the individual. Your misrepresentations are funny.
