Hecklers happen. That is life. There is a way to deal with them that allows you to subvert the accusation and come out on top. Telling them they ought to be raped by five men is not the right way to handle that.

This being on top of a comment that in and of itself is horrendously inhumane and inconsiderate, whether you think there is a time and place for rape jokes or not.

Rape jokes are part of his normal material though. I have no idea why she was even at his show in the first place. He says a lot of shock type stuff like that anyways.

Basically my point is that with things like what happened with Muamba, what happened to Petrov and the tributes surrounding that, and also things like Hillsborough, this isn't, at its core, false grief or concern....but it can become that. And of course you're gonna have bandwagon jumpers as well, but thats always the case, no matter the topic.

I found witnessing (well, kind of) what happened to Muamba distressing. It felt like one of those moments where the team you support doesn't ****ing matter, you know? Cause there are more important things. I also thought the tributes at Villa Park to Petrov were admirable and touching. There was a lot of respect there. I also understand the fight for justice when it comes to Hillsborough, and Liverpool fans, as a united front, feeling they had to clear their name and their reputation./ I understand all of those things, completely, but it has to stop somewhere right?
Defo. I actually signed the petition for the files to be released and the separate one for Kevin Williams.

Innit. She heckled and he kicked her head in with his reply.

Something similar happened at a Frankie Boyle show (admittedly he is an unfunny twat). He made a joke about disabled kids and some woman got uppity over it. What the fuck was she expecting?

I think that, as with everything, every use is different and depends on context, material, audience, etc. While I'm contextually-accepting of making rapists themselves the butt of a joke, or using the word "rape" in a joke where it is not the basis of the joke itself, I do believe that it's not ever comical to make victims the butt of the joke, and I acknowledge that these people have a hard enough time being taken seriously in the face of the real crime without the crime itself being made a comedic event.

I do try to be open-minded to the laughter-as-healing/not-making-words-taboo/context-is-everything/freedom-of-expression approach, but I would be lying if I said it didn't make me really uncomfortable to see people laughing at a horrific act, or the victims of the act that they are considerably less likely to ever experience/statistically more likely to perpetrate than I.

That's outside our ability to discuss since there's no information on it. All we can talk about is what we know happened, and there is nothing available to persuade me that he handled it any better than shamefully.

If you watch Tosh.0 You know the type of humor he uses and how borderline he can be.

There might not be something online for me to link you to it but that's still in the same arena of the type of jokes that he performs.

I don't, actually, but regardless of the particular incident, Daniel Tosh still stands as an example of poor-taste in use of such jokes, as whether she was in the crowd or not, he would have made the tasteless comment which incited the incident.

his standup specials are on youtube but I doubt you'd want to see them. He's known for that and consistently makes comments that can be viewed as tasteless. It's his thing.

Daniel Tosh is one of the best in the business right now...take things with a grain of salt, have a sense of humor.

Yeah, and it's not like he tries to hide it. His use of tastelessly offensive humor is so blatant that anyone who would go to his show and be offended should probably have thought twice about paying to see a comedian that they obviously knew nothing about.
