-*Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is making good on one of his campaign promises, and it's accelerating deforestation in the Amazon. The rate of rainforest destruction has soared more than 60% compared to the same time last year, a Brazilian government agency reports. So, right now the Amazon is losing an area of rainforest a little larger than one and a half soccer fields every minute. Environmental groups blame Bolsonaro, a far-right populist, for the quickening pace of destruction, saying he has relaxed controls on deforestation.*-

^ This kind of news is just so depressing that I couldn't bring myself to post in this thread anymore. You are a more resilient watchdog than me, OH !

It doesn’t really matter anymore at this point. It’s late stage four cancer spread all over.

I thought the meteorologist did a good job of keeping it 100.

These are points he snuck in:

* It’s only a partial fix
* It would take decades
* It would take as much land presently occupied by the United States
* OVER POPULATION IS MAJOR PROBLEM
* The forests would have to remain unmolested until they’re are old growth
* We are presently in a major mass extinction

He definitely had an upbeat optimistic tone but the subtext was a rock solid: We’re ****ed!

I think those people know full well their audience will skip over the subtext and make sure to make an Arbor Day post on Facebook.

Jane Goodall and EO Wilson were keynote speakers at the plenary for my work conference. Good stuff. You can probably find the hour long talk online if you search “esri 2019 jane goodall”

EO Wilson
Wow. That’s cool af. Think you could get me a job where you work?

Bat, I was talking about him in a thread where the discussion was about whether or not peace is possible. I remember you were heavily involved in that discussion.
