Stuff I'm going to try to see...

GZA: February 12 (My first rap show)
The Head And The Heart: February 22 (If I like them after I give them a listen that is)
J Mascis: March 10 (Not a huge Dinosaur Jr. fan, but I'm curious to see what he does solo)
The Mountain Goats: April 2 (Definitely not missing this one, one of my favorites)

scottsy 02-02-2011 10:47 AM

Would love to see The Mountain Goats live... but alas, time and money are giving me the shaft right now, you'll have to tell us all about it, Charlemagne!

storymilo 02-03-2011 09:03 PM

I've been meaning to check out the Mountain Goats... is there an album you guys would recommend?

and I'll hopefully be seeing at least one of these in the next few months:

Curren$y
Johnny Winter
The Pains of Being Pure At Heart
The World is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid to Die (plus a buncha other acts)

The problem is Johnny Winter and The World is are the same night. And Curren$y's the night before. :(

RVCA 02-03-2011 09:09 PM

Seeing Interpol tomorrow night... not the biggest fan and their last album was crud, but it's only $20 and on campus...

Yeah, I've listened to a couple of songs since then, and he's alright. Concerts are usually fun anyway, though.

The Murs show is what I'm the most excited for obviously. Murs put on a great show last time.

The tour is...

Murs (with Whole Wheat Bread, Tabi Bonney, Ab-Soul and DJ Foundation)

For the Mountain Goats I definitely recommend Tallahassee, and All Hail West Texas, those two are his best albums (and the best to start with too)

And The Pains of Being Pure At Heart are great live, I think you will definitely enjoy their live show, and I really want to see The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, they came to my hometown over winter break and I couldn't get down to see them, lucky you get a chance to!

Howard the Duck 02-04-2011 06:25 AM

The Deftones are coming here on Valentine's Day. Still considering about going.

captaincaptain 02-04-2011 10:02 PM

Just bought tickets to see Fleet Foxes in D.C.. Can't wait!

Hey, i thought their last album was alright - it was a bit downbeat and kinda lacked a certain spark, but it was probably the most thematic album they've made to date, and even great bands have dud albums from time to time. Personally I found their last album to be a grower that over time opened itself out more and more, and in doing so it drew me in further. It ended up being one of my favorites of last year. But it truly didn't have the immediacy of Turn on The Bright Lights or Antics. It was a different sort of beast, I think.

Still would be a great band to catch live... I'd go if it were on my campus for only $20!

So I did end up going. School of Seven Bells opened, which was cool, but I'm not sure how good dream pop/noise pop can be in concert. I think the audience was nodding off.

Interpol were alright. I've never been a big fan of their music but I got kinda bored halfway through and went to sit in the bleachers for the remainder of the show. They played Narc though and that's all that mattered to me.

wexy 02-05-2011 08:51 PM

Gang Of Four on Tuesday. and OMD on March 8th.
Last was Evan Dando and Juliana Hatfield last month.

sillysillymary 02-06-2011 02:19 AM

OMD wow - I'm waiting for their reunion album

Charlemagne 02-06-2011 09:44 PM

Oh oh and this one I just found out about...

Feb 24: Screaming Females with Laura Stevenson and the Cans

There is no way I'm missing a chance to see Laura Stevenson and the Cans.

Geetarguy 02-07-2011 12:04 PM

the next one I'm attending is in Buffalo, at the Goo Goo dolls fest, my band should be playing

Thanks man. I think The World Is... play around here a lot, which is nice. We don't get a lot of concerts but it could be worse.

I was supposed to go see Yo La Tengo last week but the weather made a turn for the worse and I got snowed in. Balls. I really wanted to see them. Maybe it's for the best...something tells me they are an album band and not a live one. They do have quite a few droney songs that might not translate well live.

I do have Glitch Mob coming up next month, though! I'm pumped.

sillysillymary 02-09-2011 05:22 PM

I'm supposed to go see a friend's band, Lisa Savidge next Thursday. Its their CD release. But, I'm honestly more excited about the band playing with them, Dry River Yacht Club. I'm not sure if I'll go or not. Its a school night.

I don't expect anyone here will have heard of them... so, if you want to check em out

Lisa Savidge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCGU1AwMlCU

DRYC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH3fdXpvIWM The song gets more intense near the end. They are completely fascinating and the lead singer is totally mesmerizing on stage!

I hope its OK to post this here since they aren't super famous (is this thread only for famous shows?)

downwardspiral 02-11-2011 02:32 PM

just booked tickets for death from above 1979 in may, cannot wait.

Laurent Quinn Proper 02-11-2011 02:46 PM

Broken Social Scene w/Zeus - February 18th, 2011 (next Friday).
Local Natives & Gayngs - March 11th, 2011.
William Fitzsimmons - April 24th, 2011.
Mogwai w/Errors - May 16, 2011.

And I'll be checking out SXSW and Free Press Summer Fest!

Laurent Quinn Proper 02-11-2011 02:50 PM

Oh! The Residents are coming to town in March. I've never really gotten into them but should I check them out? Tickets are still available and only 20 bucks.

+81 02-11-2011 04:30 PM

There seems to be a drought of shows I have any interest in, in the city anytime soon. Although, I might check out The Hood Internet show at a club next Thursday. They mashup a lot of popular current pop/hip-hop songs with Indie and 80's pop hits, might be kind of fun. It's also primarily an 80's themed dance club so that pretty cool.

Might make the trip in the summer to see Sleigh Bells, CSS, and Neon Indian as well. As much as I like Sleigh Bells though, most live vids I've seen have theme have been pretty awful.

Are all of these bands as bad as I suspect they are?
Black Veil Brides [Standby Records]
Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.)
I See Stars [Sumerian Records]
Versa Emerge [Fueled By Ramen]
Conditions [Good Fight Music]

I know Black Veil Brides are terrible but I've never really bothered with the rest....

They are all about the same quality of suck BvB.
Conditions are a hair better then the rest.
But they're all pretty much the same.

EDIT: Actually, they're all a little bit bearable than BVB.

sillysillymary 02-13-2011 02:38 PM

Yes, I'm quoting myself. I'm just so excited for my friend's band that I'm seeing on Thursday!!!! They got written about here

The Big Takeover: Lisa Savidge - Lisa Savidge (Black Cactus)

Wooot woo!

Also... Im debating Devotchka on 3/13 right now.

I might be going if I can persuade my friend.
Also, NAS AND DAMIAN MARLEY.

RVCA 02-17-2011 02:21 PM

Rise Against and Bad Religion are playing nearby in April, I'm trying to get that arranged.

Blarobbarg 02-17-2011 04:09 PM

Hopefully I'll be seeing Cage The Elephant in April. But supposedly their show has already been sold out. I reeeeeaaaaaally hope it hasn't, cause that show would be sweet.

Charlemagne 02-18-2011 01:10 PM

Just bought tickets to see Andrew Bird in March, so happy.

Raust 02-18-2011 07:28 PM

Korn and Disturbed are coming to my town in the next month. My friends want me to go. Not necessarily great bands by any means, but I grew up with them and they hold a special place to my heart.

I'll probably be there.

Also, just got back from seeing Swans tonight. It was possibly the best show I've ever seen. Michael Gira is probably the coolest man alive.

christjesus 02-20-2011 08:44 AM

None. Unfortunately. :(

nbakid2000 02-20-2011 09:47 AM

Flogging Molly in K.C. in March with 2 friends. (2 of us have seen them one time, this will be the other friend's first time for them)

TheBig3 02-20-2011 05:34 PM

Cold War Kids in march, CAKE in August, and god willing, Langhorne Slim sometime this year.
