Unpopular Music Opinions

Black metal is funny for me, cause on the one hand you have bands that just want to keep ripping off Darkthrone for no apparent reason, coming off as more alienated juggalos than anything else. On the other hand, a lot of black metal bands are just using black metal as a spring board for all sorts of wierdness and are one of the only truly forward thinking bands in metal right now.

But my unpopular musical opinion is that Voivod's first album War and Pain, sucks. I don't just mean that it's over rated or not that good. It's awful. Almost unlistenable. Why that album is regarded by some as their best I will never know. I wish they would go back and unrecord that album. The vocals are ****, the riffs are unmemorable, and the production is just boring. They made good music afterwards, but that album can just **** off and die.

the problem with Darkthrone is because they're so good, they actually subverted the entire genre - if you listen to them attentively, the riffs are based on rock n roll motifs

if you wanna talk about Voivod, Angel Rat can **** off and die as well, it bores both my ass-cheeks off

I haven't heard Angel Rat yet. I've listened to arbitrary Voivod songs up till now (except for War and Pain, which I bought years ago on a whim), but now I'm trying to listen to more of them. Killing Technology is currently kicking my ass!

I`ve never read anything about their debut album being regarded as one of their best, personally I think its an average album with the band finding their feet.

That isn't a particularly unpopular opinion, it isn't regarded as their best?! Voivod only really started making great albums from Dimension Hatross onwards, War and Pain is distinctly average... to be honest I think Voivod only recorded two/three great albums anyway.

I was under the impression-- and correct me if I'm wrong-- that rap metal is a derivative of the whole nu-metal scene. If your band is categorized as rap metal, you're necessarily a nu-metal act, but the reverse is not necessarily true.

Back then I thought all nu-metal needed rap to be considered nu-metal so no idea why'd you think that lol.

but yeah they are still considered nu-metal.
