Be fair. I don't think Trollheart is ready to join the Carrie Nation fan club just yet

is being overly literal some kind of sneaky debate tactic you employ to get around points or is it some sort of learning disability..?

Actually, my attitude is the opposite of what I think you're saying.
For well over 50 years, I've been continuously refining my abilities
to escape from myself when it comes to the work I do.
Mind altering substances, OTOH, actually highly emphasize your
"self" at various mental levels, so I'm just not interested in that.

You're not. You're just being a piss with a penchant for bringing up disabled people - and it's no longer interesting.
My statement wasn't literal in any sense.
The point is (and I know you've got things to do and can't be bothered with something over 2 paragraphs) that
evaluating your choices when it comes to drugs is a form of autonomy - not something that makes me "scared" of drugs.
If I were to go buy a car and the salesperson shoves a car at me and I decide that not only do I not want it,
but I will look for other options, it's not being "scared" of cars. Decades ago, I had these realtors trying to sell
me houses that didn't even come close to my descriptions. I changed realtors each time. I'm not scared of houses.

Maybe the Alien Nation fan club. Definitely the Terry Nation fan club.

If you mean while playing it, fine, got nothing there.
If you mean listening to it, well, I've been listening to and appreciating music (shut up Batty and just for good measure jwb too ) and never felt the need either to be drunk or high. My walls of text on several thousand albums over the last ten years or so here kind of show that.

Amen to that.

That's very interesting. I know that Michel Foucault had a different take* (for him, hard drugs were one of the means of undoing or at least freeing up the fixed nature of one's identity, going beyond its monotony) but it seems to me that for the vast majority of people what you said is exactly right.

*Mostly in private conversations with people who've since written about him, he had zero interest in being a Timothy Leary.

Well, I don't know. I appreciate all kinds of music and I'm never high or drunk.

Then again, listening to Dark Side of the Moon over the Wizard of Oz while high on pot and around friends who are equally high is definitely an experience (Needless to say this was a long time ago )

But I think Foucault was right. Some people are constantly trying to find some new key to
open doors that would get them out of a jail that they'd call this body. If you have the key,
you can find a thousand doors of illusions. but I've never thought of that as living outside of
your body in etherspace. Seems to me that you're experiencing one of your very real selves
that lives in the various neuron and ion exchanges that readily exists in your physical self.
