But anyway, now that ESPN regularly airs Premier League games and I can much more easily follow a team, I want to follow one of them. I'm pretty much neutral, so if anyone wants to sway me to their side or away from anther side... I'm all ears.

Pick Villa please.

Re: Rangers, in the 00's I think it was, their owners basically said "for every pound Celtic spend, we'll spend five", and... they did. The general consensus is that they brought it on themselves.

They really did get into serious trouble though, went into administration, had points docked, the lot, there was talk of them having to fold completely.

Trollheart 02-11-2013 05:46 AM

Though I'm also a Villa fan, I wouldn't recommend following them ET unless you're cool with heartburn, ulcers and heart palpitations! :D There are far better teams to follow in the Prem, two to watch imo would be Swansea and Norwich, very easy on the eye and both just recently promoted from the lower divisions, making a name for themselves.

There are always the big four: Man United, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea. Add to that I guess Tottenham Hotspur and Everton for teams that are really doing well this season, and there's a lot to choose from. It really depends on what you want. Man U are more than likely to win the league this year, but lots of people hate them because they're ALWAYS winning and come across as arrogant (cue caustic reply from Right-Track!); Man City won last year but are showing signs of slowing down and it seems an impossible task that they might rally and overtake Man U: the gap, as Mostly Autumn once said, is too wide.

Liverpool play some great football but have tended to underachieve in the last few seasons, Chelsea have a new manager the fans hate but are playing very well, and Spurs and Everton are a joy to watch. So as I say it depends on what you want.

Villa are sliding down into relegation and missing every opportunity to get out of trouble, but I guess if you want a challenge they might suit you. Expect frustration and bitten nails if you start supporting them, though. Plus even at their best they never do much better than mid-table.

I love 'em but I wouldn't advise or encourage anyone to follow what is, really, at this point, close to a lost cause.

Anyway, you need any further info or advice let us know.

I support Southampton, because they are my local team and are capable of playing well, but they can be hard work. I would say watch a few matches and you will soon see who you find agreeable. Many overseas fans prefer the bigger clubs, but they don't necessarily have the most enjoyable style.

Goofle 02-11-2013 06:40 AM

Let me just say that I was incredibly proud of every single Arsenal player on Saturday. They were wonderful until Wilshere got injured and that moron Jenkinson got sent off, then we dug in and get the job done.

Bacary Sagna solidified his status as our best defender since Sol Campbell as well. Absolute monster. 5'8 right back gets put in at Center Back because of an injury pre-match. Absolutely dominates the box and makes around 10 clearances. His celebration at the end was immense. He understood how important the win was. Love him.

If it was last year, I'd say tottenham. But they've lost some key players and seem to be being dragged through by a fabulous bale who may very well leave quite soon, bit like arsenal/vanpersie last year.

Swansea are good to watch, have a fleshed out squad and play really good football for their...origins?history?squad? Point is they're doing better than expected which is always a good thing.

Or liverpool, they're coming back and have finally got their style sorted (not to jinx todays game of course...)

Halen 02-11-2013 12:19 PM

I'm so happy with this season, Man Utd are gonna win the Premier.

Liveerpool are not even qualifying for the Europa League

Rangers weren't paying their taxes. Or specifically Craig Whyte the owner wasn't. Either way Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs didn't look too kindly on this and after going into administration and failing to bring in a new financial consortium to pull the club out of debt (They were eventually overtaken by the Sevco group), Rangers were promptly placed into liquidation.
The league penalty for this was relegation to the bottom tier of Scottish football, so just as Livingston found out a few years prior, you don't pay your taxes, you don't play Premier League football.

I think once they've won the league --- one of only what, four, to do so? --- they have to qualify as one of the big four, no? Did you get your trophy? ;)

Cuthbert 02-11-2013 05:35 PM

United
Blackburn
Chelsea
Arsenal
City

In the Premier League era anyway.

Three of those are sugar daddy winners and don't count as far as I'm concerned. Ruining football. In terms of league placing and the quality they have, City are undoubtedly now in the Premier League elite. However they are a joke club and will never be as genuinely big as the likes of United, Tottenham, Arsenal, the scousers x 2, Leeds and of course the Villa.

City are like a neighbour who wins the lottery and flaunts his wealth with nice cars, 50 inch TV and building a pub in his garden with a pool table in it while you have worked 9-5 all your life.

Face 02-12-2013 11:23 AM

Depends what happens in the next few years. Especially with the new financial fair play stuff.

Gareth Bale >>>>>

That is all.

Goofle 02-15-2013 05:03 AM

Who's he supposedly ">>>>>>>>"?

Cuthbert 02-15-2013 05:06 AM

Nobody, I just type that sometimes to mean something is good, sorry.

Gareth Bale is arguably world class, seems to be scoring screamers left, right and centre now. Wish he'd stop doing that celebration though, so cringey. And the Ronaldo stance.

Goofle 02-15-2013 08:10 AM

Fair enough. He's massively overrated at the moment but no doubt close to becoming World Class.

Not sticking your neck out there are you?
I'll go for Blackburn and MK Dons for an upset.

Blackburn won't get anything. Arsenal need to win a trophy. The only possible upset on the cards is MK Dons.

right-track 02-16-2013 07:56 AM

Where's your spirit of adventure?
If Arsenal won a trophy every time they needed to...they wouldn't be in the mess they are now.
Also got my eye on Oldham for an outsider upset to complete the Merseyside double.

Goofle 02-16-2013 08:38 AM

Blackburn are total trash and we are currently battering them. Shame we have a few trash players out there ourselves.

Cuthbert 02-16-2013 08:48 AM

Looks a strong line up to me apart from the left-back. Never heard of him.

Diaby, Coquelin, Gervinho and Giroud are straight up crap footballers - although at least Giroud has his certain qualities. The left back was our January signing, top quality footballer.

Giroud: 2209 Minutes 14 Goals 10 Assists 1 Missed Penalty
Rooney: 2003 Minutes 13 Goals (2 Penalties) 10 Assists 2 Missed Penalties 1 Own Goal

Goofle 02-16-2013 09:07 AM

Rubbish use of stats to prove a shit point.

Cuthbert 02-16-2013 09:14 AM

I'm wumming but it surprised me you said Giroud is ****. I know a few gooners and they all rate him highly. What makes him crap?

+ Goal return isn't bad for his first season in a new league.

Goofle 02-16-2013 09:20 AM

Any striker for Arsenal would score lots of goals. It's his ability as a footballer which is crap.
