In Britain, it was the Navy that was associated with the strongest cigarettes. Though a humble office worker, it was my dad's 20-a-day Capstan habit that led him to paying far more than just the price on the packet.

^ Wow! We've come a long way in terms of public attitudes to smoking. Today we are sufficiently well-informed that we mainly sell cigarettes to Third World countries. That's progress for you !
