Pre-existing conditions are back on the table and they can charge more for them again. Big win for insurance companies and anyone making more than 250k per year. It still has to pass the Senate though but I don't think it is going to be a hard fight like others are reporting.

Will never get through the Senate. That circle jerk today at the WH rose garden looked cool, but nobody really got off.

Ryan, Pence, and Trump? Nice chest thumping guys. Good for you.

I'm not trying to argue with you. I hope you're right but these days I don't feel comfortable taking anything for granted.

Exactly. All the media outlets are saying oh it will never pass the Senate. I don't trust their polls or predictions what so ever.

Crazy **** is going down that they arent predicting accurately.

I can't speak for other countries, but here in Ireland private medical insurance (for anyone without a medical card, which means they get free medical care as they have longterm illness, eg my sis) is being almost enforced, which on the one side is a bad thing (extra monthly expense) but on the other is a good thing, as nobody should really have to pay large medical bills once they have insurance.

So what happens in the US if someone gets cancer and needs treatment then? How does that work?

Only half-joking. If you don't have good insurance or savings you're kind of ****ed. It's the biggest theme of the show, right alongside "meth is bad".

That seems crazy to me. Is it common for people to not have decent insurance?

Say someone off here got very ill and needed treatment but didn't have savings or insurance, what happens then?

Frownland 05-05-2017 01:17 PM

They will likely get treated then given an unpayably massive bill when they recover/leave the hospital.

This guy puts a lot of American healthcare law and standards in laymen's terms. I recommend reading his stuff if you're interested.

Cuthbert 05-05-2017 01:25 PM

The bankruptcy part comes in like this: You try to pay some part of the massive bill.
The bank will be happy to provide a loan if you need one (most do) and will also be
happy to charge you 18 to 24% (often higher) on that loan. So, of course,
most people can't possibly keep up the payments and you begin losing - thru force,
your personal belongings until all you have left are your mortgage payments on your home.
THEN, you file for either two types of bankruptcy. Your credit and your life are ruined.
That's the great Amerikkkan way!

Chula Vista 05-05-2017 01:47 PM

Awesome. Great. Really great. Lower premiums. Lower deductables. More coverage. Really great healthcare.

I'm not even going to begin to pretend to understand the law fully until I edumacate myself. Join me in my journey.

Copied and pasted from How the GOP health care plan differs from Obamacare - ABC News

In brief: What the AHCA does:
Ends individual mandate, imposes surcharge for coverage lapse
Ends Obamacare premium subsidies, offers tax credits instead
Rolls back Medicaid expansion across 30 states
Allows states to impose Medicaid work requirement
Expands health savings accounts
Allows states to waive federal "essential health benefits" requirement and set own standard
Allows insurers to charge older people up to 5 times as much as younger
Repeals consumer taxes
Imposes abortion restriction on tax credits
Imposes Planned Parenthood restriction for Medicaid
Requires insurers to allow young adults to stay on parents' plans until 26
Allows states to permit insurers to charge more for pre-existing conditions
Allocates $8 billion to help subsidize people with pre-existing conditions in state high-risk pools
Prohibits insurers from imposing lifetime or annual limits on coverage
Establishes "patient and state stability fund" to help states service low-income Americans"

At this point in time, I think the Medicaid reduction will affect the most people.

Any picture of, or with Trump in it, accompanied by what appears to be positive statements towards the administration by Chula can pretty much be taken to be sarcastic. He got form.
