Powerviolence loves you right back. Violently. :D

How are the vocals on that album? If it's mostly screaming I might check it out.

Yep, it's 100% screaming. Sounds like this:

Crom—The Cocaine Wars: 1974-1989
First of all, let me just say the juxtaposition of the this album cover and album title is the funniest shit I've encountered since Ecce Mono (and the back cover makes it even funnier). The sound of the album itself reminds me of a cross between Today is the Day and powerviolence, with a great sense of humor. Or maybe it just sounds like hardcore taking a shit on the entire history of heavy metal. Is the album a little too long? Probably. Does it meander a little too often? Probably. But it plays like a road trip with a coked up friend who keeps changing the radio station every thirty seconds as you traverse a bleak land where every radio station broadcasts either heavy metal or clips from 80s movies. And that's really not a bad thing.

Basically all I've heard is Trash Talk and I really like them, so I'm grateful for any other recommendations. What album should I acquire first?

bob. 08-30-2012 11:11 PM

Only one The Compltete Discrappyophy of Charles Bronson.....it has all 97 tracks on one cd and a bonus live cd which has 107 tracks.....its good stuff I think you'll like it :)

Honestly, I love that album. I know Anthrax gets a lot of hate, but Persistence of Time is a very, very good heavy thrash album.

Howard the Duck 08-31-2012 11:37 PM

also got by Anthrax - Spreading the Disease, Among the Living, State of Euphoria (replacement), Worship Music

and...........

Top Gun soundtrack

Three Mile Pilot - Maps

the best part of this is that it's an EP and therefore short.....not sure if the appeal of this band has just left me or if this album just sucks....but i did not like it one bit :(

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_yqQSt5fnZp...cheServlet.jpg
McLusky - McLusky Do Dallas

i was looking at the top RYM albums for Noise Rock and this was the only one i had not heard....and was rated pretty high...and for good reason this shit rocks....fun and yet with that aggressive nihilism that...in my opinion....all noise rock should have....great bass lines and the singer has quite the potty mouth....loving this album right now

http://reviews.wruv.org/wp-content/u...-past-2012.jpg
The Menzingers - On The Impossible Past

i am honestly torn on this.....this would be on my list for the year if....the fucking singer would shut the fuck up....i'm sorry this really came highly recommended from several users here....and musically this is very good but that guys voice makes me what to commit suicide....just awful and i could not get past it

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg
Polvo - Today's Active Lifestyles

now this one i like....fits perfectly in that great era of 90s post hardcore noisy math type stuff....nothing really groundbreaking but very well executed

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/300x300/27715403.jpg
Deadbolt - Voodoo Trucker

there is a song called 'Truck Drivin SOB' which follows a trucker named Bob....obviously i had to get this.....pretty fun surf rock mixed with truckin lore

I love that album! And "Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues" is one of the best song titles ever.

Nosound - A Sense of Loss: Meh. Sort of post-rock/prog album. Not very noteworthy.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/albu...s/s3067579.jpg

Nico Muhly - I Drink the Air Before Me: Decent dissonant modern-classical. Kind of patchy, but still worth holding on to.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/albu...s/s2201064.jpg

Dinosaur Jr. - Farm: Their alternative rock phase does nothing for me. I still think You're Living All Over Me was great though.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/s91476.jpg

The Rapture - Echoes: Holy ****, the lead singer of this band has one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard. Would not listen again. Regrettable.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/albu...es/s141425.jpg

Two Lone Swordsmen - From the Double Gone Chapel: Badass light-absorbing dance-punk album.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/albu...s/s3454554.jpg

Blanck Mass - ST: An ambient side project of 1/2 of **** Buttons. Beautiful album. Very interested in this guy's future.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/s31370.jpg

Element of Crime - Weiss Papier: Forgettable German indie rock.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/s28026.jpg

Mewithoutyou - [A-->B] Life: Forgettable post-hardcore.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/s6216.jpg

Neu! - Neu! '75: Yet another classic krautrock album I can't seem to fully appreciate.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/albu...s/s3969658.jpg

Ty Segall Band - Slaughterhouse: 2012 garage noise rock album. Very good. Maybe top 10-15 material this year.

The first time I listened to The Rapture I hated them too, but eventually Echoes became one of my favorite albums of that time period. Not saying that will happen to you, but that album is definitely worth a few more spins. They're very good live too.

bought:-

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

4 CDs of my fave sounds from the era of really crap movies starring Afro-Americans, mostly really obscure movies

misses out a couple of essential trax, like "Shaft" and stuff from James Brown's "The Payback" (licensing problems, I believe) but dig it, baby, it's groovy

also:-

heard "Mr Wendel" on the radio so why not eh?

Arrested Development - 3 years blah blah blah

wanted to see what the fuss was all about:-

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing.....

from the "shoegaze" thread:-

Catherine Wheel - Chrome
Chapterhouse - Whirlpool
Slowdive - Just for a Day

and the last one, dunno wtf happened to my cassette:-

Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix

Chrysalis 09-04-2012 04:55 PM

Jedi Mind Tricks - The Psycho-Social, Chemical, Biological, and Electro-Magnetic Manipulation of Human Consciousness

I've been meaning to check these guys out for a while. I have a feeling that this isn't the right album to start with, but it was just the first album by them that I found a link for.

That's a shame. I hope you're able to get past it eventually, it's my favourite album of the year so far.

Also: the band has two lead singers. Don't worry, I still get them mixed up.

BLUT AUS NORD - ULTIMA THULEE (1995)

I havent had a chance to really give this a go yet. I decided, after getting into the beautiful 777 albums, that I needed to go back through their discography. I'm not expecting as much 'beauty' from this one, or at least of the same kind. That doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing though.

Today I just ordered some albums to fill some gaping holes in my collection. Really there is no way I should have gone so long without buying these, given how often I have listened to them.

http://screambloggore.files.wordpres.../album2542.jpg
ALCEST - SOUVENIRS D'UN AUTRE MONDE (2007)

This was one of the first albums I really fell in love with as a direct result of a recommendation from someone on MB. Credit to Jackhammer. Feels like a long time ago now.

http://moltenmetalreviews.files.word...lune.jpg?w=604
ALCEST - ÉSCAILLES DE LUNE (2009)

I probably like this one better these days though, I would say.

http://www.thealtreview.net/wp-conte...es_de_lame.jpg
ALCEST - LES VOYAGES DE L'AME (2012)

It's not as good as the two full lengths that came before it, but I hope it can at least cease the bitching that seems to go on in relation to Alcest from certain circles of heavy metal fans.

They arent black metal. I think this makes it perfectly clear.

http://www.progarchives.com/progress...9192082005.jpg
AGALLOCH - THE MANTLE (2002)

Just beautiful. I recently got back into this album all over again after a period of neglect, so I had to buy it.
