I searched for some comedy rock, and found this band. Pretty shit album. They use the dick joke too much.

I saw these guys with Judas Priest a few weeks ago. They aren't great at all, but they know they're terrible. They make fun of themselves on stage.

Scott Walker + Sunn O))) - Soused (2014)

Whoa. What the hell is this?

Frownland 12-09-2014 04:12 PM

Not as good as Sunn O)))'s other work, that's for sure.

EDIT: Just listened to it again, damn has it grown on me. Still not as good as Sunn O))) alone though, but that's seriously difficult to top.

Almost everything by them is awesome. Also if you're going to try folk punk try out anything by Pat The Bunny, Ghost Mice, Paul Beribau (think I spelled that wrong) , or the Front Bottoms to get you started.

You should be able to find it anyway, Overcast, but it's spelled Baribeau. I'll second Machine's recommendation of his stuff - he's my favorite modern (that is, not counting Billy Bragg or Violent Femmes or whatever) folk-punk artist, plus he's from sorta near me.

I was really into Andrew Jackson Jihad maybe a year ago (so I was 13), but I don't really like them as much anymore. Knife Man holds up and I still enjoy the other albums, but not nearly as much as I used to.

Ah thanks knew I misspelled it his stuff is really good, although I have not listen to enough yet, I'd still recommend him. Also I think going to see AJJ live pushed me over the edge, thus why I still listen to them.

Sun Kil Moon, Benji

Not quite sure what I think of this. It's very memorable, and some of the lyrics are incredibly hard hitting ("my uncle died in a fire on his birthday," for instance)... but so much of it just sounds like pointless over sharing. Which I guess is the point. Hence my conflicted feelings. I may have to listen more. Does that mean I like it? I'm so confused.

Zhanteimi 12-09-2014 11:06 PM

^I love it because it's so real, but people uncomfortable with oversharing might find it off-putting.

Hospice by The Antlers

god I have the worst love/hate with this album. in once sense its the worst violation of artificial sadness ive ever heard. it's like a terrible soap opera in music form. but, at the end of the day, the first time I ever listened to this was when my grandfather was in a hospice. the last time I saw him we watched the phoenix coyotes and Detroit red wings in game 3 of the first round playoffs. I remember this. extraordinarily well. and that's how I remember this album. I cant hear The Kettering without shedding a little tear because it reminds me so much of his funeral.

it's weird because I don't get why this is so popular, yet it's so attached to me. its an album I just cant detach myself from but definitely understand the criticism

Zhanteimi 12-10-2014 04:59 AM

^that's a good take on Hospice

I thought St. Vincent's last two records were exponentially better in every which-way possible. The first time I heard it, it was fine. But the more I tried listening to it, just started disappointing me.

Overcast 12-10-2014 11:47 PM

This is how I rank St. Vincent personally:

Actor > Strange Mercy > S/T > Marry Me > Love This Giant

surprisingly unsurprisingly good. It doesn't get all postrock-ish until the very end.

Very tasty. More adjectives will arise upon further listening, I'm sure.

Dirty Beaches - Stateless
A lot more on the ethereal side of post-rock for Hungtai and no vocals. This is supposedly the last album of his Dirty Beaches project.

Still loving AJJ. I wouldn't say this is better than PTCEPATLPITW though.

edit/update: I'm still not sure but it's giving it a run for its money. I'm sure it'll grow on me. People was an instant love, though.
