to me it is an attempt for the goofy douchebag to act sensitive, from a guy who is known for such songs as "Nookie"... it is just laughable.

That`s because you`ve got no real appreciation of music as a whole. Every artist needs to be seen in the context of their time and what they offered at that time, their influence on future music and future artists, if you can do that then you can justify the artist.

If you`re an average Linkin Park fan or some such band, you may not have much of an appreciation of a Beatles album from 1964! Hence leading you to make the above conclusion.

The cover is not bad, the problem is, that any band trying to cover a classic Who song like this is going to suffer. Largely because in Roger Daltrey, they are coming up against probably one of the very best male vocalists in the history of rock.

Since I grew up in a household in which everyone lacked taste in music, I will forever know "Behind Blue Eyes" as that Limp Bizkit song. Thanks Fred, you've forever ruined The Who for me because now in my head I associate The Who with your shitty band. Frat boys should not be allowed to make music, it's just embarrassing and what's more normal people actually enjoy it.

Durst supposedly was not a frat-boy and didn't intend to be embraced by that community. But I can see why he's perceived that way and that the band's reputation made The Who cover feel inappropriate.

I don't buy the idea that it's considered "wrong" for any artist to cover The Who classics. (Junk like "Athena" doesn't count.) The Scorpions' remake of "I Can't Explain," as far as I know, didn't attract ridicule. For what it's worth, I definitely prefer that to the original; it has better sound quality and is much harder-edged.

Edit: "Durst was ranked 71 in the Hit Parader's Top 100 Metal Vocalist of All Time"???

Fred Durst is not actually a bad singer and I`m one of the few people on here that actually quite like some of Limp Bizkit`s albums. But you really can`t compare him to Daltrey and to be fair their music is basically worlds apart anyway.

The Scorpions are more likely to get away with a Who cover, because yet again in singer Klaus Meine we are talking about one the best singers in the history of metal and his Germanic nasal sounding voice is unforgettable.

I don't care if he is an attention whore, I wouldn't know anyway as I know nothing about them except the music I have listened to. I haven't found anything special or fresh in their tunes.

I am normally a fan of formulaic, generic modern rock (Seether, Matchbox 20, Shinedown, Nickelback, etc). This seems to be looked down upon around here.
