It's not hard to find atleast 1 song by these artists that will appeal to you on some level.

I think Aqualung is their best but the problem is, it opened the door to the overblown prog stuff that came after.
You forgot their mid - late 80's period where they tried to sound like Dire Straits especially on Crest Of A Knave. I find Jethro Tull one of the most frustrating bands ever. For me virtually every genre they dabbled in produced so many good tracks but very few decent albums from start to finish.

The Scorpions are more likely to get away with a Who cover, because yet again in singer Klaus Meine we are talking about one the best singers in the history of metal and his Germanic nasal sounding voice is unforgettable.
Ive always liked the nu/rap metal bands like Limp Bizkit, POD, and Syliva, just to name a few.
And the scorpions are one of the best of metal.

Always liked these bands as well, especially earlier Seether.

I consider "Fine Again" and "Broken" to be some of the most strikingly touching songs to hit mainstream rock at their respective times.

I agree oojay, my personal favorite by Seether is "The Gift".

I loved "Broken" when it first came out (granted I was much younger) but I still thought it was one of the strongest mainstream rock songs on the radio.

Also, speaking of generic mainstream rock I used to love Creed, right around the time of Human Clay.

I will always love creed, regardless of how much mainstream or behind the scenes love or hate that they elicit from the public, or how big of a douche that I hear Scott Stapp is in real life. They were about as epic as mainstream rock could get in the 90's/00's. I think it was the pseudo-christian presence in their music that tended to make people scoff at them, moreso than the music itself.

oojay, I had the pleasure of getting a demo tape back in the mid 90's from Bryan Yale of Tabitha's Secret which included "3AM". The song was immediately likable, extremely catchy, etc.... Tabitha's Secret, of course, later changed their name to Matchbox 20 and the rest is history.

I don't really like Nickelback now, but I recall that Silver Side Up wasn't an awful effort. I really liked "Too Bad", "How You Remind Me", and "Never Again", in spite of their formulaic unoriginal approach. "Too Bad" in particular.
